View Full Version : WTF....Fiske FM10
MeFryRice 09-27-2006, 02:18 AM Okay so I was getting the Fiske's repainted to a deeper black and ran across something interesting...three of the spokes are cracked, but not just a hairline, all the way through :eyecrazy I'm not too stoked. I've called Fiske and they stated that the inner-piece will set me back $375 + shipping. I guess it's not THAT bad of a price but still more money then I'm wanting to piss away right now.
BTW, the pics came out like junk but it'll give you a basic visual idea.

Eric BMW 09-27-2006, 02:33 AM Bummer. i loved my fm/10s.
Who was the member awhiel ago with that sig that said "Dont powdercoat wheels. Look at my Kosei K1's" and it showed his K1's got cracked.
shragon 09-27-2006, 02:59 AM wow, that really sucks! :(
liigod 09-27-2006, 04:46 AM I would be so angry. You are taking it better than I would.
hc1001 09-27-2006, 04:50 AM yea i jus dropped 1 grand on fixing two of my wheels at fikse... i dunno about those cracks in the spokes...
how could u miss seeing them while they were on the car? anyways... i've learned my lesson about getting wheels refinished/repaired. always replace the part, not try to fix it back to normal...
Super quality. Make sure you buy more! :)
i've also heard getting forged wheels p. coated hurts them. didn't realize it could do that.
Patrón 09-27-2006, 02:26 PM did they get offended for calling them fiskes?
if the outer wheel area wasn't bent, why did the spokes break?
I'd complain.
Inv3ctiv3 09-27-2006, 02:31 PM Bummer. i loved my fm/10s.

His name is Brent (BMW M Power), he is a good friend of mine.
toddman35 09-27-2006, 02:33 PM Were they painted or powdercoated previously?
Eric BMW 09-27-2006, 02:40 PM Wait WTF FM/10's are FORGED CENTERS. That shit is not supposed to happen. I had a billion pothole bends on the rims of my fm/10s btu the centers are supposed to be indestructable!
00bm00 09-27-2006, 03:09 PM Hope you werent driving on those.
If so, strong rims right there
jszy25 09-27-2006, 03:25 PM wow those pictures make me cringe thinking about how much those wheels cost.
mitchelrl 09-27-2006, 03:31 PM Fikses are Anodized, not powder coated.
Powdercoating doesn't generally get hot enough to damage wheels. Kosei's are cheap, so I could see how those would be damaged by powder coating.

My bad, I didn't even realized how I spelt Fikse on the title....i fixed it though, or am in the process after I post this. I'm not sure how the center piece cracked the way it did, I've looked over the lip quite a few times and there is not a bend in it to even play as evidence of something.
how could u miss seeing them while they were on the car?
Well with the spokes being black, I always thought they were just deep scratched and didn't realize they were actually cracked till they were sanded. The guy thought the same and just kept sanding thinking to himself "man I can't seem to get these scratches" then it dawn on him.
arakele 09-28-2006, 06:30 PM kosei's crack with its factory paint.. let alone powder coating :stickoutt
i wouldnt have expected that from fikse though
m3mobbin 09-28-2006, 06:52 PM So much for the "you get what you pay for" saying... That's the kind of stuff you expect from ebay replica's.

Macro function FTW ;)
Can't you just get those spokes welded?
paintpro21 09-28-2006, 08:00 PM If those wheels were powder coated then that is your problem. forged aluminum wheels cannot be reheated becaue they will deform. Your not even supposed to fix a crack in an aluminum wheels. a bend on the outer lip is ok but nothing involving heat. powder coating causes the same problem. the molecules realine.
should have had them painted :(
I'm rather upset that the wheel people didn't know about this, or worse didn't tell you / don't care. We all know they don't want to take blame for it.
Daved 09-28-2006, 08:09 PM A couple of my alu wheels are welded, no problems at all.
SleepRM3 09-28-2006, 10:03 PM that is unacceptable from a Fikse wheel...I won't buy them...
96cosmosM3 09-28-2006, 10:28 PM Stay away from all the american bling wheels if you dont want cracking and bending.I'd suggest a forged quality wheel, like a one piece BBS wheel.
I'd also suggest to stay away from 3 piece wheels, since there are no fully forged 3 piece wheels AFAIK.
SRiley 09-28-2006, 10:44 PM All wheels will crack at some point. In the end, they are a consummable. I had a set of Forgeline RS Comps where every spoke had a crack in it although the outer rim was never damaged/repaired nor were the wheels ever painted/anodized/powercoated.
It took 6 years to break them. All wheels will break sooner or later, it just depends on the original quality. This is not a reflection on Fikse nor Forgelines.

ozbmw 09-29-2006, 03:16 AM If I was Mr Fikse I would have replaced that centre with a new one and had you sign a confidentiality agreement. That is rather poor aftersales service, I have never seen that sort of damage on a wheel that had not been in a collision. No quick fikses for me!

Just because they are forged doesn't mean they can take a huge amount of beatings. Being forged just means they were able to retain strength while keeping the weight down through forging the metal. They will still bend/crack/break when put through abuse, three piece or single piece. Street driving is sometimes harder than track abuse, remember that next time you bend a wheel on the street.
