Has anyone done the swap on an 80-83, and if so are all the mounting points the same? How about electrical connections to the solenoid and stuff?
I hear it's lighter and shorter, but does that mean its any easier to remove and replace?:confused
Thanks,
John

A 'how-to' on how to replace the starter would be awesome if anyone's done it!??
Looks like a S*$T to get to!!

On the early model it's much easier to swap it out. Anyway, I just did the search :rolleyes and saw that you had posted several times how much you approve, and others also. Sounds like a no brainer.
Thanks,

John- the m3 starter is an upgrade on the 80-83.
I replaced mine a while back. Take pics before removal, they may help later.
I removed the dipstick, the meter boot, the whole fuel distrib assembly, and some hoses under the intake.
There is also a coolant hose that runs along the block I replaced.
So if you are going to go at it....
drain the coolant, yank the belt fan, install a hayden, shoot I even yanked the ac while at it.
You'll need the room to get the big f-er out. The hardest for me was using hand tools and removing the bolts near the trans...knuckle busters. If I did it, you can.
