Isnt the stopping power or distance the same between the drums. I have always heard this even from Jeff at IE. Its when you race that these become a benefit.

People think drum brakes dont provide good braking, thats totally not true, leading shoe systems provide excellent braking, just as good as disc/rotor, the difference is the drum brakes have a harder time getting rid of excess heat.
Personally, its cool, but i dont really think its worth spending $500 on.

braking for daily driving is pretty much the same - except if you get them wet.
To me I just do not like have to re-adjust the rear shoes every 3 months or so.
But than bending down just seems to keep getting to be more work everytime I do it - too :(

re adjusting rear disks or drums every three months? As far as getting which ones wet?

Drums while wet suck. I had to readjust my drums about every two months to maintain the pedal feel I like. I had some decent shoes in my drums, ($100 performance ones) and they stopped decently.
I've heard there is no difference when upgrading to the 323 small setup, the bonus is when you have the proper mounting setup and go to e30 325i rear disks.
I never tracked my e21 but the rear drums just by nature take longer to cool down after getting hot. I never had any problems on the local twisties with my good rear shoes (sorry forgot the name). After carving many mountain roads and going to dozens of track days/schools in the Mini and the M3 I know that a race track is 5x more brutal on brakes than the steepest mountain.
