<hr style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> Hey guys, im new here and this is my first post so here goes.
First off i have a 2003 525i Sport E39.
Ok i bought a basslink 2...installed in 30 mins...nice bass with trunk open ONLY!
Close trunk, go back to crappy non-dsp system bass.
Took a blade and circled the two 3" punchouts in rear deck.
Then took screwdriver and punched them out and removed round insulation blanks as well. Sat in car closed trunk and opened windows slightly...bass is finally in cabin a bit but not as nice as with trunk open.
I would rather much prefer to drive with the trunk closed lol.
NOW the question is, can i pop in a pair of kicker free air or equivalent 6.5 subs in the 3 inch holes or do i have to make the holes bigger? I know common sense wise the holes are 3.5" smaller but will the small 3" holes make good use of 6.5 woofers? Im sure anything is better then what i have now. I dont want trunk to rattle so thats another reason id rather not have a big setup.
Also i dont have ski hole so i dont think i can punch it out. Would it be possible to put a compact woofer enclosure in the armrest area with armrest down? I was looking at the small kenwood 6'5 powered enclose and the 6" jvc enclosure but im sure they wont fit nice and flush in the armrest hold. Do all 525i sedans have solid metal behind the armrest or can they be punched out. I dont want to start slicing anything.
Another idea was to put the small kenwood or jvs enclosure on TOP of the rear deck right under the rear window. For security the car came with the automatic rear visor to cover it up when parked. Im sure one of these enclosures would fit or perhaps an under seat setup.
Or heres something for completly zany action....Put a 6.5 woofer in the armrest it self. Ofcourse when you open the armrest, the woofer would be facing down since it would be IN the armrest but that would require cutting.
Dont want huge 12-15" woofer enclosures. thats what the navigator is for.
Any insight?
thanks guys and hope to have plenty more discussions with you.
