I am trying to do a simple upgrade for my HK equipped 99 M3 coupe. I don't think I need 10 speakers, multiple amps, heavy subs that take up my trunk space, or tremendous expense to come up with something that will sound better than my 7 year old HK system with failing midrange. But people here know much more than me and I am open to suggestions.
Based on a lot of searching and reading here, this is what I have come up with as my Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) system:
eD 9.4 amp, 65 x 4
eD 6500 two way 6.5 components (I'll cut the kickpanels if 6.5s are best)
CDT CL 69 free air 6 x 9 sub/mid woofers
Here are my questions:
Will the eD 9.4 amp adequately power the CDT CL 69s? If not, is there any way I could use my HK amp to power part of the system for now?
With the CDT CL 69s, do I need 6.5s in the front or would I be fine with drop in 5.25s be fine?
How much of the stock wiring can I use?
Is there any reason why I cannot wait to upgrade the stock headunit?
Thanks,
Philip Bradley
