hey, ok i have been searchin non stop about the car, so basically my best bet is to go with suspension for mods, m10 isn't the best platform to get some power unless i go turbo. but i was wondering, where can i get a Front lip or valence wutever it is to make it look mean on the front. i'm confused with the 320i, so it has a 1.8ltr m10. wuts the hp and trq rating on it since i c diff m10's. its a 1979 320i. i want to be in the mid 15's to satisfy my power needs. althoguh it will be setup for autocross i just need some power to get around easier thanks

a 79 will have about 110 hp (when it was new) if you tinker with the motor it would put you in Street mod in SCCA where you will get spanked....so if you want to auto-x it I would think about what class you want to be in and build the car for that class.

I know, doesn't illiteracy just suck in this country? Did you know that America that USED to be ranked #1 in the world in education is now ranked #26.

But back to the topic. I think realistically you'll find that most of us here (and correct me please if I'm wrong) are enthusiasts of the E21 for many reasons such as body style and handling but if you're looking for something to burn up the asphalt going from light-to-light then I don't think the stock M10 is the engine for you. You're not going to WOW too many people from a dead stop with these engines. You dont even really start hitting the performance end of the engine until somewhere around 3,000 rpm. Keep in mind that I did say that we're speaking in terms of stock. You can dump some serious cash into a Yugo and MAKE it scream for you.

2.0L engine from '77-'79, 1.8L engine from '80-'83.

Yes, they can be made to make good power without a turbo if you are willing to do more than just bolt ons... All the standard hot rod stuff works on these engines just like on any engine. Cam/compresison/bore/stroke/ported head/carbs/programable efi and ignition/good header and exhaust/etc. 200hp without boost is possible if you have the $$$ and knowlege.

Check out what I have done to my '82-it runs much stronger than it has a right to-well it did until the crash... The resurection continues with some upgrades to power, body and suspension.
