I have a 1999 540i and just purchased Kumhos ASX All Seasons and Axis Ultimate brake pads. I have not realy but them to the test but I cannot say that I am wow'd. We will see
For tires (balanced and installed) and brake pads installed, oil lube and filter and two new air conditioner filters around $925.00.
Did I do the right thing ! Onlt time will tell!
Love my 540 IIIIIIIIIIII--right:)

I had a kumho excsta mounted on my spare rim- never used it yet knock on wood, but it looks like a decent "bargain" tire. I'd try a set of 4 for the price- we'll see whats out there when I need tires:) I have toyo proxy4's on there now, great tires.

I have Kuhmo Excta SPTs and Axxis Ultimate pads.
I've been happy with the grip of the tires and the pads.
The ASX won't have as good of dry/summer grip as the SPT but will obviously be better got winter/all season.
The Axxis Ultimates grip slightly better than the OEM pads that came off bt of course I'm comparing well worn OEM to brand new Axxis. The axxis has a little more dust than the originals but I don't mind wiping down the wheels a couple times a week. My only complaint is that one wheel sometimes swueeks when braking. I've reinstalled the pads on that wheel applying a liberal amount of brake greas and it still is squeeky. I don't know if thats the pad or an installation issue.
I've also used these pads for some autocrossing and they were completely fade-free after 4 runs close together.:buttrock

Tha Axxis Ultimates have better friction characteristics than OE pads and have a higher MOT. I find that they make less dust than OE pads, though they aren't a low-dust pad. They will squeak a bit, usually only when the pads are cold. But it isn't very loud and I don't find that to be objectionable.
