I just got a 2004 BMW 325CI, so e46. I have always completely replaced my cars stereo systems, so I think I may do it here also. Does anyone know what speaker sizes are in this car? All the sites I usually look stuff up at says "Information not Available." I want to keep the head unit, and just replace out all the speakers, SO I need to know what it has, and the easiest way to replace them. Thanks

If you have the coupe you should have 165mm Euro 6.5 woofers in the F doors. They are somewhat shallow and you can't readily cut for more depth. Dyne MW160Gts fit, Hertz Space 6 and 6L fit, DLS UP6 and Iridium fit, but I'd avoid cast frames and such. I also recommend damping the snot out of the door panel while it's off.
The tweeter in the door is tiny and the mid is about 2", so the hot ticket in this car is to jettison the amp and all the door speakers and go with a good two-way component set with a tweeter that plays a lot of midrange - such as the Dyne System 240GT, the DLS UP6 or Iridium, the Hertz Space 6 or 6L, etc. and put the tweeter in the mid hole.
Ace the rears, not worth your time.
Did one of these a while back with Dynes up front and a DLS Iridium woofer in the trunk on one side firing across in a stealthed fiberglass enclosure. We are offering these enclosures special order now.
Strapped some amps across the underside of the rear deck. Sounded amazing

Do you know where I can get more information about these component sets? I am not too familiar with the brands, although I have heard of them. Previously I have used MB Quart comps and focal with sub combinations by JL audio, Phoenix gold, Elemental Designs and Boston Acoustics.
I was thinking about doing a complete boston acoutics setup but I'm not sure....G5 sub, high end comps....how do these compare to the stuff listed in the post above? I want SQ mainly, but still like to get loud
Also, anyone have experience taking these cars apart? how difficult is it compared to (I've worked mainly on acura, jeep, ford)

I just replaced my stock stereo with all new stuff. (E46 M3.) I went with JL audio component speakers. They fit perfectly in the stock locations, which is what I wanted. 5 1/4 inch speakers is what fits. Front and back. JL 300/4 and a JL 500/1 is what I used for the amps. The sub is a JL 12W6v2 in a custom box in the trunk. Alpine head unit that operates my Ipod. The IPod is in the glove box and I never have to mess with it at all. Sounds really really good.
Good luck!!

Every E46 M3 we've done has had 165mm 6.5"s in the front door. HK or no.
What year is yours?

2003 M3. Yes it had the HK stereo. Here is exactly what I used. JL Audio model# VR525-CSI. 5.25 inch (130 mm) 2 sets, front and rear. One reason I chose these is because they have silk dome tweeters. These speakers are driven by a 300/4 JL amp and I am very pleased with how they sound.

I'm glad you like it. FYI, you're scratching the surface of hi-fi.
Would you mind posting the BMW PN off of one of the F door midranges?
