View Full Version : Local E21 for sale, a few quick questions
infinitenexus 09-23-2006, 06:47 PM Hello all. I just saw a nice looking 320i right down the street from me and I took a quick look over it, and it looks like it's in great shape, silver/black interior, with only 48,XXX miles, no cracks in the interior and no visible rust, recaro seats with a bit of wear, and overall very clean, and for $1000. Before I go back and really check it out and maybe talk with the owner, I just wanted to know a few things about the E21, like reliability and cost of parts. Hey, if everything goes well, maybe my wife will let me buy it! (cross your fingers for me!)
Thanks a bunch
infinitenexus 09-23-2006, 07:29 PM I just went and checked it out again, and it has black recaros on a very dark blue interior, and the 120mph speedo. I don't know much about E21s, but what the 120mph speedo offered in the 320i, or was this a swap? The paint is faded, but no serious rust visible on the outside, even on the lower door areas and what I could see of the undercarriage. It's a 4 speed, also. There's only a number on the windshield, no info, and I tried calling the number, but no one answered, so I'm still in the dark about it for now. Fresh tires, also. From the outside, it looks well-maintained. Hopefully the owner will call me back...
kdanielson 09-23-2006, 07:52 PM It's a '77-'79... 4 speed/120mph speedo were standard.
Shipping parts to HI is costly and there are not too many e21's there. I've lived on Oahu 4 different times for a total of 10 years... My grey '82 is probably still there if it hasn't rusted away.
Check the trunk, shock towers, floors, rockers and underside of the doors for rust.
If they are well maintained they are very reliable cars, if they are neglected they can be a nightmare. Vacume leaks and corroded electrial grounds are the biggest problems. Both are pretty easy to fix.

infinitenexus 09-25-2006, 03:02 PM Well, the car was in incredible shape... But my wife said no. E21 or a wife... I think it's divorce time :)

I think it went wrong when you asked her if you could get it.
OLD MAN 09-25-2006, 03:19 PM Ned to pass the ad on to Oahu320iS, he may want to peak it up
