Got a ticket back in Feb. for 72 in a 55 on rt32 just before the i-95S exit. Was driving a loaner Ford 300(?) and "the speedometer was stuck in kilometers somehow.":devillook I also didn't have my license on me (it was at the house and I was driving to get it).

Went to the Annapolis court house instead of Ellicott City (honest mistake) so I couldn't plea my case. Months later I finally paid the speeding ticket (but not the license ticket) and was told I would get a new court date. I expected I would have to pay the license tickedt when I registered my new car. Now the DMV is suspending my license because I didn't pay the license ticket (which was a "non-related citation"). The suspension comes off when I pay the second ticket; but I can't contest my speeding ticket because it's been more than 90 days since the offense.

I really REALLY don't have the money for a lawyer right now. I was told I could write a letter to the judge; but I don't know what to say, what to hope for, or even if it's the best way to deal with the situation. Advice?

PM "Jed" or "Jterp" -- Both of them have had their licenses suspended. Jed's got his suspended for doing a burnout in front of an officer's home. Luckily, Jed wore his ravens jersey to court and the Judge also loves the Ravens and everything worked out. He might be able to help you.

Jterp got suspended for trying to run from the cops while filming a teckademics video ... he got off somehow with the judge :dunno

I am not a lawyer. But, I've had my fair share of legal issues lately with my license and my friend's dad is a lawyer. In VA once that period of time passes to get a re-hearing or whatever it's called, that's it. I believe it's 60 days here.

Edit: That 60 days thing applies to whenever you were sentenced, not the initial offense date. When was your court date? You should be able to have it reheard. Also, I hate MD, you guys get it soooooooo easy.

Skip your court date and the next day post collateral for a new trial date.
You will have to turn over the fine but the goal is to get a new court date when the cop does not show. Then you get your funds back.

I'm not so sure this works. In VA they have a schedule of the cop's court dates, he/she already knows when he/she will be in court for the next couple months. When you get a new court date, they schedule it for the cop's next court date. This is why when you request a continuance, they tell you what the new date will be, you have no say in the matter.

I don't think this applies anyway, he already missed his court date because he accidentally went to the wrong general district court.

That's what I thought I was doing. I even asked the cashier "does this get me a new court date even though I'm not paying the other ticket now?"

She said, "Yes." Then she said I should be getting a new date in the mail. A month later I got a letter saying they couldn't schedule a new date because I didn't pay the other ticket. Two weeks (read: lastg Thursday) after that I got a call (while in Austin, TX) saying my license is suspended because I didn't pay the second ticket and wasn't able to reschedule my court hearing regardless of when I paid my second ticket. I'm not RICHJ anymore:( I drive a friggin' Honda Civic:( :(

I really should just put on the red light... and sell my body to the night:awink:llkiss

I was really confused at first, I saw speeding ticket, looked that you had a Civic, then started scratching my head until I kept reading.

I can tell you it works here in MD. Can't speak for VA though.
