View Full Version : Depowering M3

I know that most seek mods/software to increase power, but I'm seeking the opposite, for a temporary time period.

Short of pulling three plugs, is there a way to dial down the power, or reduce the rpm limiter?

My sister is coming to visit, and I'd like to put the car in transportation mode or some kind of depowered state of tune. Locking out SMG and keeping it at around 180HP would be ideal...

That way I can tell her it is a 325i with M badges.

Any ideas? Wish there was a software code that would put the car in a depowered state of tune.

lmao, for what it would cost to do that you could rent a car for however long she is there.

Install a brick under the gas pedal... that should solve all your problems. To better answer your question... no, not possible, at least not easily.

Those'll work, especially the brick *under* the pedal.

Or, I'll drop it off at the dealer the day she arrives and get one of their X3 loaners.

My sis has a habit of redesigning sheet metal, and I think I'd rather skip that step with this vehicle.

This is all a joke right?

I'd really like to hear the whole story and reason.

why not just tell her she can't drive it. I forbid my sister from driving my cars since i got my new maxima back in 01. It's not that she's a bad driver, it's just principle. :D

Why would you even let her drive a car of yours, even if it was a loaner? Tell her to rent her own god damn car.

:Werd: its one thing to let her drive your civic. it's another to let her drive your M3.

maybe an adjustable powerband (http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=30) is what you need.

2 ways to solve your problem:

1.) Rental
2.) Rental

I cannot help but laugh when I saw this thread but as I read further you have a good reason to wanting to do this. Then again, no. De-tuning a M3 is a bad idea, even if it was possible. Rental my friend...its your best bet.

I was halfway serious and half kidding.

Yeah, I love my sis, but just got the M3 and don't really want to deal with having it bent.

She's coming to visit when her radiation treatment for thyroid cancer is done, so I really want to make her visit nice and don't want to be a dick by saying "don't drive my car" as if the car was the most special thing in the world. i just didn't want to hear it when she says (again) "i was cut off" or "they just appeared out of nowhere"... yeah right.

Anyway, I'll find a decent political solution, like sending it in for the emmisions software recall thing and just giving her the keys to the beater truck with a full tank of gas. or a rental. that'll work.
