Hi there,

I have a 1999 318i, and notice when steering to leave a park I get rough idle when turning the wheel. I appreciate there is a load on the engine at this time, but surely it should be able to cope with this?

Could this be a bad battery, or perhaps a power steering pump or belt? I'm taking it to a dealer next week, but would like to get a heads up as to the liklely causes...

I remember my Honda use to do this as well, so I guess it can be a common fault among vehicles of any make.

Thanks heaps

Richard

Sounds like possible idle air control problem.

So you mean simply adjustment of idle speed?

I don't understand. How does the idle air control valve operate differently when the steering wheel is turned?

a weak/sticking idle air valve would not be able to compensate for the added load at idle. how does the car run otherwise?

Runs fine around town - I also have a problem with a shaking "rear end" at moderate to high speed - but this is intermittant, Im getting the wheels balanced this weekend so hopefully that is the only reason.
