View Full Version : Shooting ranges - NoVA?
old skool 09-13-2006, 03:56 PM I am looking for shooting ranges near Fairfax, Springfield, Annandale, Arlington, Alexandria, etc.
So far I am aware of the following:
Gilbert Small Arms, Inc.
8194-M Terminal Rd.
Springfield, VA 22079
NRA Shooting Range
11250 Waples Mill Rd
Fairfax, VA 22030
On Target Firearms Training
at NRA headquarters for CCW class in October
What other options are there? I am not sure I want to drive around MD for a range, but if one is close, I would consider it.

I am going to check them out. Their pistol/rifle range web page is blank so I will have to call them. They are about 20 miles away. I am still going to hold out hope that I will find a place I like that is closer.
Thanks

I second Blue Ridge. We've been going there since we moved here from L.A. 6 years ago. It's by far the most well-rounded combination of good ventilation, non-Fascist/friendly staff, military people that bring some sweet guns, etc. Sure, the NRA range might be more high-tech and have a bit better ventilation, but it's also more expensive and the people that run the range are Nazis (not politically, but in how they run the place). You have to take a bull**** test when you first come, be lectured about gun safety, all that unnecessary BS (at least, unnecessary for us).
Plus, I haven't seen Blue Ridge's renovations, but I hear it's gonna be a lot better! And that means it will be state-of-the-art, because the current one already is pretty darn nice.
mjOlson 09-30-2006, 10:45 AM +1 for NRA range. Test, although it is a test and we all need one of those like a hole in the head, it is easy and you can't fail. They basically walk you through it if needed and also the type of questions you should know or just not be handling a handgun. I like the well supervised aspect; keeps others from giving me that hole in the head.
I don't know what kind of shooting you do but I come in there during lunch hour, gun already on hip, get my lane and rip out 200 rounds in about 45min. Aiming optional, getting out stress kind of shooting. No problems with range staff.
Also, no big blood stains on the floor like used to be at one of the other ranges around here.
**Edit: never been to Blue Ridge to shoot so obviously not comparing to them. Always had very good experiences with staff in their shop.
i heard that someone offed himself at BRA recently
walked in, rented a gun, said "that looks big enough", put a couple rounds downrange, then put one through the back of his head
with a girl scout troop or something right there. nice huh

not really related to your post, but since I have worked right next to Gilberts for the last....entire life...
there have been at least half a dozen people who have blown their head off.
im sure there will be another suicide customer there soon
