View Full Version : E36 head gasket job~ help !!
Nik1703 09-12-2006, 10:16 PM wellllll, i recently (like 20 minutes ago) found out that i'm gonna need a head gasket job on my 93' 325is. burning coolant through the exhaust :[[[
i read somewhere on another thread that it was 700-1000 for the job, but my mechanic is quoting me at 2000. i trust my mechanic and ive been going to him for a long time but i'm wondering if it can be done for 1000 or less?? any help would be great
thejlevie 09-12-2006, 11:01 PM My guess would be be 1600-2000, depending on local labor rates. So what your mechanic has quoted sounds about right. There's a lot of labor in the job and I'd be suspicious of someone that guotes half of that.
Nik1703 09-12-2006, 11:07 PM :/ not what i was hoping for
thejlevie 09-13-2006, 12:03 AM Well, I figured that was the case. The numbers mentioned above are just for replacing the head gasket. The total cost will go up if the head is warped or cracked or if there are other parts that are found to be bad once the head is off. Sorry...
Nik1703 09-13-2006, 01:40 AM hmm okay, well thanks. do you know how much it should be to do a valve job as well once the heads are off? and any ideas as far as boost in performance?
3 way visionz 09-13-2006, 02:31 AM s52 swap man. if your gonna drop 2 large you might as well put another 2 large to get a better engine
Nik1703 09-13-2006, 03:27 AM lol then i need a tranny too. i dont have that kinda moneyyyyy. blah. but that sure would be nice. i cant find a nice m3 engine though, 3.2 or 3.0

GeNerIc BizZ 09-13-2006, 05:38 PM naw thats too much!!! a head job should only be around 900. thats how much they wanted to charge me. one place was 950, another was 1200, another was 900 and this one dude wanted to charge me 2000 and I laughed and walked away lol.
