My 2003 530i is my first BMW. I am used to changing oil and general maintenance on older cars, but I have not had time in recent years to maintain our newer cars. Are there any pitfalls of doing it yourself? I am especially concerned about the electrical/computer systems. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you are still under warranty then why not let the dealer do it. But if your do it yourself, it's just an ordinary oil change. nothing special about it. Only gotta reset the service interval.
1. Get a Bentley repair manual.
2. I've enjoyed working on my 318i. Well designed for repairs, save the AC microfilter (but that was fixed in later models, I think).
3. I personally don't bother with the service interval, just go every 6K for oil and 12K for inspection. It's been red for months now :dunno

Thanks for the help. The car listing is in error. It is a 95 RX7 which my son talked me into buying. A go cart with turbos. Terrible on the interstate, but coming down Hiway 151 from the Blue Ridge Parkway it is better than any theme park ride. My wife is a very tolerant person!

FD is a nice car, my buddy has one. Too bad it's a money pit, he just spent 9k on rebuilding + misc.
