Ok, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

So as a first post I thought I would post a question that makes me look like a newb. Has anyone swaped E36 or E46 M3 engine into an E39 525i?

but there has been more thought put into this than you think.

First, the 525i weighs ~3,400Lbs (the M5 is 600Lbs more) so it would be a good platform for a project car. The end result would be near the M5 power to weight ratio.

Second, the E39 was sold at the same time as both these cars, so I thought the E39 might share engine mounts with either the E36 or E46, making the swap easier.

Lastly, a relative of mine owns an immaculate E39 525i in silver that is begging to be ripped up.

thanks for not flaming,

I believe the e36 m3 engine is the easy one to fit, however, that gives you nowhere near the power to weight ratio as an m5 - in-fact, it's still quite far off from a stock 540... unless it's a euro s50/s52

true, true,

I guess the power to weight comment was assuming the E46 engine fits.

So, has anyone done this with an E36 M3 engine? is the consensus that it is not worth the effort?

yea I heard of the E36 M3 Engine going in, theres a couple of them on some 328's and I swear I saw one online on a 528. If you use that engine for a turbo setup than that will definately be worth the effort

twinscrew s52 would be more than enough power.
