Will I loose a ton of coolant when I replace my old fan switch to a lower temp switch? What is the best way to do this without killing my driveway?

View Full Version : Replacing fan switch - coolant spill? StorminNorm 09-07-2006, 11:37 AM Will I loose a ton of coolant when I replace my old fan switch to a lower temp switch? What is the best way to do this without killing my driveway? Mr Project 09-07-2006, 12:09 PM The fan switch is several inches down on the side of the radiator, so yeah, you could lose quite a bit. You have some choices: 1 - Get the car on a steep incline - ramps or jack up the front end 2 - Drain some of the coolant out 3 - Work very, very quickly. :) themadhatter 09-07-2006, 12:17 PM just be quick about it. have the new one in hand and ready to thread into the radiator immediatly after you pull the old one out. sure you'll spill about a quart but nothing serious. -Ron Craig S 09-07-2006, 12:44 PM Leave the cap on the reservoir tank too, that will help slow the loss. StorminNorm 09-07-2006, 01:40 PM I flooded my college apartment when I tried to replace the hot water faucet washer WITHOUT turning off the water cause the shit off was rusted shut. It was pretty fucking funny at 2 am having hot water gush out. I did it though. I will probably try to siphon out much of the coolant in the reservoir and my driveway is already at a nice incline. Thanks for the advise all. |
