hey guys, i'm a little new to older 5series but i'm going to test drive an '85 535i tonight. the guy told me on the phone that the speedometer doesnt work on it. i didnt get into details too much, but he had the clutch replaced 4-5months ago. from what i read in a haynes repair manual, it sounds like there's a tooth on the flywheel that the speedo electronics gets it reading from. if this were off, or misaligned, wouldnt that cause the speedo to not work? or what else should i look for that would cause this? i know about the speed sensor in the differential, but i'm not sure if that is good or bad. i dont want to buy this car, than spend a fortune to see how fast i'm going.
