So the 99 m3 got keyed up Friday night. I don't know exactly when or where but my sister discovered it Saturday morning when she was outside in front of the house. Every single panel was keyed: doors, fenders, hood, roof, trunk, mirrors, bumpers. All scratches are deep through the clear coat into the paint. How can someone do such a thing...:(

I called the insurance company and they have a list of recommended auto body shops in the city to take it to. If I take it to one of those places, then they won't even have to look at the car.

If I want to take it to a place of my choice, then I'll have to bring the car in to one of the recommended places for a quote first.

I was thinking of bringing it to B-Line in San Jose because I hear only good things about them, but I'm afraid that B-Line will be way more expensive than what the listed places quote. I gave B-Line a call and they said I would have to bring in the car for a quote and they're backed up until Sept 25th.

My insurance is Liberty Mutual and the deductible is $100.

Some of the places on their list is
Dynamic Motors Inc. SF
Charles Henry Co. SF
Master's Autobody DC
Harris Brothers SSF
Quality Body & Fender Oakland

Anybody ever hear anything about these places or have had experiences with them?

I asked them to check if B-Line is on their list but it's not. I suppose I can ask them what other places in the bay area are on their list.

What should I do? Should I go to the recommended places or a place of my choice? Any other suggestions?

bummed.... :(

go to the place of your choice. By law, you have the right to get your vehicle repaired at the shop of your choice. Sorry to hear that your car got keyed.

you can have the work done wherever you want, but your insurance company is only going to pay up to the amount that their recommended shop quotes the damages to. anything above that amount will be out of pocket.

of course, but he still has to choose a shop from the choices his insurance company gives him and that will dictate how much the ins. company will pay out. if he owns the car outright then ins. will cut him a check and he can do what he likes. if he has a loan and is paying off the car still, then the ins. company will pay the shop which can still work out if he knows someone at a shop.

I'm not so sure about free paint job. There's a thing called deductibles so he'll have to pay out something.

Brian- Sorry to hear it bud. Glad it's all being taken care of

Damn that sucks I was keyed a while back too. Are you sticking to the same color or color change. Usually you should be able to bring it to the shop of choice. If not check reps of the given shops.

B-Line painted my 356 Porsche a few years ago, and they were competitive, though not cheap. It's worth taking it to them, and tell them what you are dealing with.

So I don't know exactly where it happened. The car was parked in several places friday night.

On broadway in chinatown between Powell and Stockton
In one of the avenues in Richmond, 5th Ave? by Clement
And in front of my house by Lowell highschool

So yeah, the deductible is $100, not too bad.

I made an appointment with one of Liberty Mutual's preferred shops for an estimate. If I get the job done there, it is guarunteed by the shop and by Liberty Mutual for as long as I own the car.

I'll see how much they estimate it to be and then take it over to B-Line and see how much it will cost there.

wow what do u pay for insurance for $100 deductible?

i got $500 on 3 cars and its still a pain.

but yeah Bline does good work. my X5 got keyed on drivers door and i took it there. they do very good work but they do run about 2x the price of most other shops. they however offer lifetiem warranty against peeling discoloration and all that good stuff.
