I thought there was a video thread but I couldn't find it so here goes.
Partial session: http://videos.caught-on-video.com/video/033f11d8-f694-4a5e-8a47-98320117b920.htm

Some people like to call this sort of driving "11/10th's" :stickoutt

Wow, I bet you go through a lot of tires. Fun, I'm sure; fast it is not. :)

HAHA, at first I didn't know what you were talking about, but now I know. Just to let you know I DID NOT write that! The only part I wrote was "Sept 3, 2006, PCA DE @ MSR - 3rd session"

EDIT-I changed it back.

HAHA, it's not like I do that every corner, just a couple of times per weekend unintentionally. I got 4 track days out of my last set of used RA-1's which when I got were 3-4/32.

To be honest the right foot sounded pretty spastik...I heard a couple times lifting at like 2 feet from the exit of the turn. And I don't there was one corner where he didn't lift in mid corner. Sounds like he went to Gran Turismo race school.

Oh well, if you can get away with it, you might as well have some fun...

Lifting at track out? I really don't know what you're talking about. To be honest I did hear what MIGHT have been that at ~14:37 but the whole weekend the microphone cut in and out from quiet to loud because apparently the camera/mic has some sort of automatic volume adjustment feature, and the constant changing going from high to low pitch it kept on flip flopping its sensitivity which would drown out the tires or engine. But even if I did I don't think it's fair to sum up my driving by what i did at one corner in one session.

Come on now, I don't lift at mid corner that much at all. I sometimes lift(or gas) approaching the apex which would also be called throttle steering for small line corrections. Maybe that's what you're talking about? Maybe you're not used to hearing the engine that much in driving videos(I did have the mic mounted in the engine bay...)?

I really don't see what exactly I'm getting away with... but okay. I'm not saying im driving perfectly at all, after all this is a drivers EDUCATION. A learning experience.

I thought you drove quite well, the car sounded like it was on the limit in almost every corner. Awesome track, wish we had that here.

I was also thinking of putting the mic in the engine bay, interesting problem you had with the recording level. Maybe your camera allows you to set the recording level to manual, this should solve your problem, use lowest setting to start off.

I'm also impressed with your picture quality. How did you mount the video camera ? I've had no success with camera mounting.

Too bad you never caught the other car. What was it, a E36 M3 maybe ?

i agree, i'm not sure what the "problem" is. i thought the driving was pretty good. he is in advanced group, also, which indicates he's got at least some skill.

to the best of my limited knowledge, tires squeal when they are on the limit. is that why skeen says "you go through a lot of tires?" maybe someone could explain how to be faster in relation to this video?

It was my car he was chasing. In that session, I set a new personal record by cording 3 of my 4 Toyo RA1's!

Greg drives that car of his very well. I rode with him a month ago on that same track, and we made some improvements to his driving that have made him noticeably (to me, at least) faster. He is very smooth, and uses his car well without overdriving.

I would say that the ding-dong from Jersey needs to buy a dog & name him Clue...

Thanks for confirming the car, maranelloman. Nice driving. From what I hear, the old M3 is quite difficult to drive - it apparently does not communicate well when it is about to lose grip and lets go quickly, a real ON / OFF type of ride (talking about the South African 4-door 3.2 321hp version).

Wow, well I have never driven the 321hp version. Mine is a lowly 240hp US version, 1997 model year, with 91,xxx miles on it, and the way I have it set up, it is about as predictable a street/track car as I can imagine. Not very difficult to drive except for the challenge of carrying as much momentum thru the corners as possible, considering its relative lack of hp when you get on the straightaways!

I'm not that familiar with the camera as I just got it last week, I just put it on Auto and let it figure out the rest. E46's have an empty compartment in the engine bay that I mounted the mic in.

I mounted it to the 2 vertical headrest poles via a homemade mount. ChaseCam sells a very similiar one for around $50. It's really not as stable as I'd like but it works. The long video I posted I actually had the camera mounted too low, I must have lowered the headrest by accident or something.

Which seat did you mount it to? I have the chasecam one, and it seems to work better (on the street atleast) if someone is sitting in the seat. So i'm going to try switching it over to the driver seat to see how that works.
