View Full Version : E34 M5 4sale opinions
chebimmer 09-04-2006, 10:47 PM What do you guys think of this car? Red, black int. 61k miles, for around 12.9k. This seems like a good deal, assuming everything checks out.
Can I get some opinions/recent purchase prices?
Thanks everyone.

xatlas0 09-05-2006, 02:19 AM MBlaster and DeWitt have both called the M5 "a 20k car", meaning, you pay it up front, or you pay for it shortly after purchase.
de Witt 09-05-2006, 02:53 AM do a goddamn search...get the car into a reputable mechanic and do the works to the engine...looks fine on teh surface...those fucks in OT have really pissed me off tonight, so please excuse me...

OT can have that effect...:stickoutt
On topic, I concur w/ deWitt. A inspection is a must.
It's been said before that values are all over the place on these cars.
Most of the time you get what you pay for.
Smactuna 09-05-2006, 12:24 PM not that bad i would rather look for a newer one personally but it's a nice car

chebimmer 09-05-2006, 06:09 PM Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I would def. put it through an inspection and the $20k car is probably right on, I was just hoping that at 60k miles, there would be less post purchase expenses. The problem is I live about 5hrs from the car. It would be a pain to schedule an appointment with a mechanic who may or may not be reputable on such short notice. Looks like I should let this one go. Thanks again.
angrypancake 09-05-2006, 07:58 PM so do a quick scouting expedition online, ask the owner of the car, where is there a reputable mechanic? ask on here. 5 hours from Boise is.........? someone can probly help.

Eh, you know 60k is sort of the point where things may become issues if they have not been checked. Check water pump originality (make sure it has been replaced), front thrust arm bushings arms start to wear and it causes shimmying upon braking from 50-65mph, valve adjustment is due, I dunno. Ive had really good luck with high mileage examples just as I have good experience with low mileage E34 M5s, I mean low, like off the showroom floor new. It is all about consistency. The 20k rule is that you probably will spend 20k to get the car up to par. If not, then you had a good previous owner, but you also probably spent more to buy the car.
I would pursue it. It doesnt have to be a master M mechanic. Just preferrably a foreign auto mechanic who can do some fairly basic checks.
