View Full Version : Two Random E28 Questions
323I Junkie 09-04-2006, 12:35 PM A. Anyone know which exact Saab Model has the transplantable Sunroof?
B. Anyone know where I can get an m30 2.8?
Im thinking of something.....
Dark Helmet 09-04-2006, 01:53 PM 2. I'm selling a B34, if you're interested.
Dark Helmet 09-04-2006, 01:53 PM and I think I know where a B30 is...
323I Junkie 09-04-2006, 02:12 PM well, heres the deal
the 2.8 was designed (the m30 one) during the fuel crunch of the 70'...remember the add..2.8 liter, 30mpg and 130 mph for the bavaria?
I theorize that in an e28 with a 5 speed, no axle lower than 3.46, a mild turbo setup and a well tuned megasquirt setup using modern modern injectors and ignition system with a MAF conversion..you could make a 528tiS (not an eta based one but a real m30) runnign all synthetic fluids and the IS ground effects, lowering kit and a cat even..
and have a nice 280 horse / 35 mpg highway 25/town daily driver...maybe even 300..nearly m5 power and speed with crazy fuel economy..
i theorize...the small displacement would contribute to low boost/ no boost fuel efficiency..the e28 lightweight would help in town economy, as would the modenr injectors, fuel managment, and multiple spark idscharge system
of course you could probably match those numbers with a turbo e28 with an m50 in it for les....
bmwe28boy 09-04-2006, 03:42 PM You'll be looking for any saab 9000 sunroof.
Dark Helmet 09-04-2006, 03:55 PM actually abe, most all of the M30s run VERY lean if they are running right... arment did 28mpg in his E34 sedan once.
I've got an E28 shell waiting for a good home too.. it's not perfect, but it's cheap. email me at derfrogger at gmail dot com... we shall discuss this.
the biggest issue with the E28 is heinous aerodynamics...
323I Junkie 09-05-2006, 12:12 AM yeah, the aerodynamics are boxy
but so is a boxfish...and it swims
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
didnt you pull the AC out of that e28?
323I Junkie 09-05-2006, 12:13 AM You'll be looking for any saab 9000 sunroof.
and its a bolt in or close to one right?
because the guy at the local european yard said the e28/e23 sunroofs are the same..
therefore, SAAb 9000 should go right into the e23....:devillook
Dark Helmet 09-05-2006, 03:57 PM AC is out, but its also sold...
and it looks like the engine is now too...
its going into an E30!!!
323I Junkie 09-05-2006, 04:26 PM wow...
badboybarge 09-05-2006, 08:48 PM You'll be looking for any saab 9000 sunroof.
thats the one! i think theyre pretty easy to come by. i wouldnt mind getting one but do they also come with the sliding shade cover? because i can imagine without it during summer it would get very annoying
323I Junkie 09-06-2006, 12:48 AM you could fabricate a fabric one over fiberglass or even just sheet carbon fiber and velcro
Am I to understand they are the same sunroof mechanism and everything?

there's another big thread that goes through it in detail, will try and find it for you
323I Junkie 09-06-2006, 07:43 AM thank you
Im getting pretty pumped because this seems like its aactually going to work and for maybe just a few hundred too...
mike saunders 09-12-2006, 08:49 PM well, heres the deal

Excellent points.
A turbocharged small displacement engine is a nice blend of economy and on-demand performance.
Although you'll be on boost more than you think!
323I Junkie 09-12-2006, 09:09 PM It intrigues me
kendogg 09-13-2006, 06:32 PM I have gas reciepts of my fully loaded 84 533i 5 speed with 275k miles getting 32 mpg on the highway on my move from NY to atlanta. And by loaded, I mean trunk full, 2 computers on the back seat, and an overnight bag on the passengers seat.
323I Junkie 09-13-2006, 11:47 PM wow

Dark Helmet 09-14-2006, 12:05 AM I never got that in my 83... but I also had, erm, ahhhhhh, throttle angle issues....
