Is MSR Houston worth it?

It is not the most exciting track at first glance but it is fun.

I try to support the BMW club events that get put on...if we don't they might not happen again. You notice this event was moved from TWS due to high cost/low turnout last year.

Great question.

The first time I drove it, I would have said "no".

But having driven it several times since, I would say "yes", if for no other reason than it always improves your skills to learn a new track.

This track is essentially 4 straightaways connected by an autocross course. I think it was designed by a brake pad vendor, for Viper & Corvette guys.

That said, the technical portions are very technical....there are a couple of ways through a bunch of the corners, and trying them is a lot of fun...it is generally a very safe track, and very VERY grippy....and the straightaways make it fun to really air the car out & then practice your braking techniques at their ends. Plus, our little BMWs tend to do really well there, and it takes an really well-driven high HP car to put any distance on us.

For me, door to door, it is nearly the same distance to MSR Houston as it is to MSR Cresson (within 4 miles of each other). For you, obviously, it would be a much longer drive.

EDIT: I will be co-CDI for this event, by the way, so I will get to, once again, pimp some great drives. ;)

nope didnt sell...had a few interested individuals, but i had to leave the country then.
So i might keep it till after the DE then sell it...hehe (still have lots of brake pads and RA1s to use up)

not sure what's planned at the event for saturday evening....else we can all plan to hit Lupe Tortilla for some good fajita and cold brew...

I signed up for Road Atlanta but I'm on the waitlist... If somehow I can get in then I probably won't drive down to Houston.

Ray, if you get in to the RA event, email me. I learned that track in a day from the Master (Seth Thomas) and I can really help you ahead of time.

garage = car port...like TWS only no power and no tables for your stuff (at least that is what it was like last Dec- they have added a lot of stuff since then from what I have heard).

Not sure. Last time I was there, they were building a bunch of what looked like open 1 car garages just south of hot pits parallel to the exit of the last corner.

What Dave said is correct... at first glance it seems boring because it is FLAT. but then when driving it , it really is pretty damn fun..

Hope to get my trackrat ready for next year, so I can get a lot more seat time in. Nick and Will are helping me button up an S14 to drop into my '02. We've prolly crossed paths a couple times. Oh and I also had the privilege to ride in Bruce's monster although he prolly didnt know about it(nor care). Thats why Im interested and making comments about it.

i have one, read to go, but the dealer sent teh wrong vanos gasket. So i'm not racing again this weekend.

Great event so far. Thanks to the Houston BMW chapter, Matt Groner and Matthews Auto, as well as Yokohama Motorsports for providing the gift cert for a set of tires I won. :redspot :buttrock

Overall had fun on sat learning the track. Sunday sucked with the downpour but the track is 100x better in the rain than MSR Cresson. Wouldn't mind driving the track again on a weekend with some better weather.
