I need to put a muffler on this car its insanely loud and irritating (though power is great heh). Looking at a 3" in and out round body muffler - I will just stick it in the OE location and have it pop out the back. Any experience?

dynomax mufflers are pretty good quality actually. and they sound pretty good too. if i pick up the 735i i'm looking, it'll be getting one. i sell dynomax mufflers quite often (i work at a parts store.) there's actually a lot of people that prefer these to magnaflows and flowmasters.

Have you ever heard one of their round body units? Not oval - I am talking like a straight tube - I have a 3" straight open exhaust now and its insanely loud. I want to muffle it a fair amount I hope the round muffler does the trick.

In the 80's and 90's during my 5.0 days, dynomax and flowmaster where the top 2 mufflers of choice (Supertrapp being #3). On the dyno, the dynomax pretty much always made the more power the any other muffler. They are very good mufflers, however if I recall they are pretty loud, at least on a mustang or camaro. They had a mean low rumble. I think you should try them.

the round body mufflers you speak of are the glasspack mufflers (they call them Bullet performance mufflers on their website.) they are pretty much the loudest muffler they offer, so you might want to run two. there's a couple you can choose from.
this is the shorter one (http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?categorycode=3333H&mfrcode=WAL&mfrpartnumber=24222)
this is the longer one (http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?categorycode=3333H&mfrcode=WAL&mfrpartnumber=24219)
then there's another one that Dynomax lists on their website. the part number for that one is 24238.

On Summit they made specific note to say they are not glasspacks.

on Dynomax's website they also list them as "Bullet" mufflers. the box they come in has glasspack written all over them. i will double check at work tomorrow to see if there's a difference between the two. i'll probably just end up calling Dynomax and asking. i will get back to you tomorrow night on that.

I have personally run both the 3" bullets and 3" Ultra-flows on my turbocharged 5.0L in the past. Both make excellent power, with rapid spoolup. There is a noticable difference between the two for sound, even with a turbo. The Ultra-flows (oval bodied) are much quieter, with next to no loss in power. I'd strongly recommend them, especially in stainless.

We had an oval dynomax on our 325 racecar when it was n/a (and running...) sounded very decent. :dunno

checked out the mufflers today at work for you. they do offer the bullet style mufflers that are straight round. they are race style mufflers though, thats why we dont carry them in our store. the flow is very high, and they are a straight-through design, but they only reduce noise by 2-4 decibles according to their catalog we have. if you want some actual part numbers and dimensions, let me know. i'll bring the catalog home tomorrow and maybe scan some pages for you.

I went and ordered the muffler from Summit its the 23.5" long one (end to end) with 3.0" in and out. It didn't talk about how much it muffler but that it muffles. 3 -4 dB? That doesn't sound like much, are you sure? I also ordered some 3" mandrel bends to complete this project. Hopefully I'll have an exhaust system either this weekend or next.

I have an oval one on my S52 E30 and it sounds mean. Not too loud ether.

Hrm I'll have to be the first to try the round bullet style. I didn't want to get an oval because I didn't know the offset i should get for in and out

If you wanna wait maybe a week, we are flow benching some muffles in class and I can give you the numbers we get from the different mufflers.

just checked the dynomax website, they say 2-4 Db for the bullet mufflers over a straight pipe.
