View Full Version : Just Sold My E36 M3
Just sold my flawless E36M3 and am putting the money to work towards an '08 or '09 M3/Manual (coupe or sedan - not sure which). I never drove an E46. What might someone like me expect from the V8 400hp version of the M3 compared to my oldie but goodie? I'm going through a withdrawal crisis right now.

I can't say. A very nice young man found me and we negotiated until he was comfortable. It's in a good home and that's all that matters.

WHY NOT...i promise we won't tell National Enquirer ...besides....knowing how much you sold your FLAWLESS M3 will definately help us poor soules determine the going prices for such cars...

It's too painful. There's the market and all and then there's the long-term outstanding care that I gave it (the car). The selling price ended up being closer to the market. Kinda sucks, but the positive is that there's good cars out there for great prices (although many have not been well cared for and none as well as mine).
BeamerJill 09-19-2006, 01:57 AM good home, lol
xeler8 10-18-2006, 01:18 AM My E36 is going to be my beater as soon as there is a 335i or a E92 M3 sitting next to it in my driveway. No way I would ever sell my E36 M.

crqflier 10-18-2006, 11:00 PM Just ordered a 335i sedan and am going to be in the same boat selling the M that I've driven for 9 years. Thought I could hold out for the e92 M, but figured we're at least a couple years out before they're not marked over sticker.
ExLondoner 10-19-2006, 11:18 AM For reference sake, I sold mine in early August for $23k
G2 Speed 10-19-2006, 05:12 PM good home, lol
You know the car has feelings lol
replicat 10-19-2006, 08:32 PM You should expect that the car will be so different from your e36 that they are not even on the same charts. Your e36 M, supercharged or turbo or what have you, still wouldn't compete with this monster in a straight line, or out of a turn. The V8 power along with the new 6spd or SMGIII, and the M-lock diff. will be phenomenal.
On the other hand it will most likley be 400lbs heavier and you will definitely notice the weight gain, however we all pray that the suspension and balance of the car will ease it away, thanks to the car being longer and the engine being moved back a bit.
Last but not least, assuming that you get a few options, you will be in a world of luxury that is unmatched by the e36/46 M's. (Not that it matters, but maybe the wifey may like it a bit more).
I have wet my pants once again, so if you'll please excuse me.

Now you've sparked my curiosity. :ponder
Ok boys. Assuming its a coupe with the average milage of 80,000 for a '99, and being flawless as you said, the bluebook is about $17,500. Now you said it was below market, that means...$16,000. Then you said you sold it to a "very" (15,750), "nice" (15,500), "young man" (15,250). Though the kicker was "it's in a good home and that's all that matters", that's sellers remorse! :lol3 So im gonna say... $14,000 was the selling price.
Am i close?

Damn you're good. He clawed his way down to $13,500.
I spent some time looking at newer cars and they just pissed me off so I searched far and wide for a mechanically flawless '99 M3. Found it after about 10 test drives, paid the "right" price and put about $5000 into it to address everything.
Looks like the wife'll be getting an E92M3 or an S4 once here Acura TSX lease expires. That's love.

13.5k??? Honestly, news like this makes me think that I will be keeping this car for a very long time. It's a good thing I love it. :redspot

Good one's are worth a lot more than the market is bearing today, in my humble opinion; although I think that good, low-mileage E36M3's will soon start slowly appreciating.

You sir need to take a trip to the FI forum and see what Turbo'd and S/C'd E36 M3 monsters are capable eating the E92 M3 for breakfest, lunch , and dinner.
An E36 M3 with TS stage II on 9 psi will run looooow 12's.

Yeah...until you supercharge the E92...

:lol
yeah...start investing now...
m3chaser 11-11-2006, 12:08 PM Yeah...until you supercharge the E92...
right you are to an extent. Although there are still some like card counters lil 2.8 that would still demolish it or even camerons as well. I would agree though that it would be tough to beat a S/C E92 M3 for sure!

Could you explain yourself? On what are you basing this? Do you really not know that there are supercharged and turbocharged E36 M3s out there that would easily blow the doors off of the stock 400 hp m3 coming out?

+1 He doesn't know what he is talking about.
Either way, a modded car vs. a stock car is not a valid agruement IMO. You can still boost the E92 etc.
(btw, this is coming from an e36 m3 owner who is planning to go FI next year:alright)
blackm3 11-11-2006, 07:02 PM Damn...13.5k for a 99 M3? That's cheap!. I was eyeing the new MZ4 coupe and a 02 C2 but since my use for the car is strictly for the track, spending 30-50k for a weekend car seems frivolous. Especially when I can install a TwinScrew on the car and keep up with most of the GT3s, Carreras on the track. Drove the e46 M3 but I didn't like the feel of the car. New M3s keep getting heavier and heavier...E36 M3s:redspot :alright FTMFW!!!!!
vikgiri 11-12-2006, 12:12 AM you cannot compare an e36 3.0 3.2 6 cylinder vs. a v8 e92(correct me if i'm wrong) there is a significant part already there.
to me it's almost the equivalent to an e39 m5 engine with different tuning, eventhough its based on the v10?
But then again i don't know F*** all about engines ...
