Which one would you go with? I currently have the JL's right now; but, I believe the momo's will go down to .75-.8 cubic feet. The JL's, to sound right, need about 1.25 cu. ft. Even with polyfill, 1.0 cubic feet doesn't cut it.

I am driving it with a JL 500/1.

So, should I trade/sell the W3's for the polk momo's?? I have never heard the momo's; but, considering Polk's name, I figure they have to be pretty good.

Any opinions on this trade?

P.S. 12W3's = 2 of them I have now.

i got 2 of the new momos, the new ones that come with the custom enclosure. first thing they look GREAT. they come with a grill and and are see through from the back.!
regarding sound....their great too. they handle 500 watts rms...
the box is .88...
really small compared to what i had before (mtx 8000's, 6000's, first generation momos, alpine R types).
i got 2 of these....side by side. they actually free up some real room inthe trunk. i might just take one out and use only one....(not into the whole super bass thing anymore..)
anyway, i defenitly recommend them. they sound great. They can hit really hard if pushed right.
if you give each one 400-450 RMS and break them in right..(at least 20 hrs...very important) you will get high quality bass.
im giving them maybe around 350 each....but gains set to really low.

anyway..i highly recomend them.
never had any JL's....but heard their great.

if you want to save some room and still have great sound..get the momos.

-JL- hands down....

I actually just had a gentlemen (a.k.a "Meathead") bring me (2) of his Polk Momo 12's that were smelling of burnt Voice Coil.

We sold him some W3's and haven't seen him since.

I have sold more W3's to absolute maniacs and have never had one come back blown...I really can't believe it....

Thats VRC for you!

P.S. If you really want to upgrade SQ/Output wise go with a 12W6v2....those are nuts and only require 1.25. (I know your goal was a smaller box....)

the w3v2 is the way to go...they are in a different class in my opinion then the momos.....the new momo version has xmax=1..now is that peak to peak, in inchies, or what? i DOUBT its 1" either way because it would be one of the highest excursion speakers ever made (the record for the highest excursion was 18mm only a few months ago..i think its been broke now but not by momos :) ) and a sensitivity of 87dB, Fs of 27.5hz, and effective cone area of 79.21in^2.....the jl w3 has an Fs of 24hz and a an xmax of .463"(11.8mm) and a sensitivity of 86.9dB and an effective cone area of 81.5in^2....assuming the two drivers can handle the same amount of power (from my experience the jl's will easily handle anything the momos will but thats my opinion)....the resonant frequency of the jl is lower....the sensitivity is so close that in a car setting its irrelevant....to my knowledge it has never been shown in any test that any human can hear .1db diference in SPL especially in the bass region where our ears are so insensitive...as soon as power hits those subs that sensitivity rating is irelevant anyway because bass is a balance of sensitivity, enclosure size, low frequency response of the driver...notice that the jl, while having a VERY slightly lower sensitivity rating compensates for this by having a much lower resonant freq. (Fs)...this is MUCH more important for low bass than sensitivity and one reason is the tradeoff in box size and the power needed to get the LOW bass to be equal in SPL to another sub which is more sensitive but hasa higher Fs..it will actually take MORE power for the sub with a higher Fs to get the same low frequency SPL as the sub with the lower Fs even if the sensitivity of the second sub is higher...also, the jl has a larger piston surface area so it will move ore air per mm of movement than the momo..simple math..larger cone, all else being equal, more air movement per x amount of excursion....all the above along with JL subs ability to take unreal amounts of power and u have a formidable subwoofer......once again.....the jl is the way to go...
just my opinion...
