Can some one please tell me what were the options that were available back in 97/98 in a 4 door ///M3....I would also like to know if the stock sound system be upgradable to a HK unit or not..Does it involve installing extra stuff or is it as simple as just replacing the head unit...Is it pricey to do the conversion......
Thanks

All 10 speakers are unique to the HK system, as is the amp. The HU's in e36's are all plug and play between one another to the best of my knowledge. A HK car should have the C43 HU.
All your wiring is the same, so yes you can buy all the speakers, the amp, deck, etc and slap it all in. I just sold my entire HK setup, all speakers, hu, changer, etc for about $500.

Replacing your stock sound system with the HK system is not an upgrade, keep the stock setup, it's better.

what he said, HKs sound so much better then stock. but if your going to replace speakers i cant justify buy HKs, i would rather buy aftermarket speakers for that price and have even better sound ie. mb quartz.

Do a search in this forum, the Nokia's are better... not everything is sound quality, there's also build quality. We have gone through this before.

who cares how well they're built if they don't sound good.

IMO they sound pretty much the same, they both suck but the Nokia's last more. Nokia is the way to go if you want stock/factory speakers, if not, go aftermarket, not worth it going with the HK speakers.
