I purchased my 740i just yesterday, and have been playing with the electronics quite a bit while driving, and parked.

Today after driving to the gas station for a fill up (my wife in the car listening to music with air on) the car wouldn't start.

I had to call AAA for a quick battery jump, and the car was good to go again.

Is this common with these cars? Should I not be playing with the Nav, Cd's playing, phone, etc for extended periods if im not on a long drive?

I'm taking my car to get tinted tomorrow, and i'm worried the cars battery is going to be completely dead by the time the tinters are done.

Thoughts? Comments?

Do I need a new battery? Is that covered by the extended warranty? It's an 01 covered until 07...

Also, anyway to turn off the lights and accessories while the tinters are working their magic tomorrow?

I replaced the battery in my 01 sport about a year ago. This is my weekday car and it didn't like sitting over the weekend. The third time it gave me a problem I got the new one. You just don't want to get stuck.

The reason I am posting however, is that my mechanic told me to buy a BMW battery. He said that there is an extra lead plate in the bottom of the battery and that my car needs that extra weight in the rear end. Anybody ever hear that?

Basically they put the battery in the back to enhance the 50/50 weight distribution so you do the math. Its time for a new battery so change it.

Drive it up to AutoZone and have them test it for you. They'll be able to tell you if your battery is holding its charge. Actually, you can do this yourself, if you unlock your OBC.

Anyway, sounds like the problem is limited to your battery. If it was the alternator, then your battery would have died on you after you jump started it. And if it was your starter, then jump starting it wouldn't have worked at all.
