So I have two keys to the 1996 E38.

One day, I use one key (key A for ease of understanding)..and it doesn't turn on the car; it just unlocks/locks the car and im able to use the radio/electric functions useable.

I originally thought it was the starter..but instead, I used the other key (key B) for "giggles". To my suprise..the car fires up! Now, I can only use key B to turn on the car..what gives? Thanks guys :D

I have heard that these keys have batteries in them and that the ignition system charges the key when it is in use.?!? Is this true? Perhaps your key battery will not charge and needs replacement. Not sure, just speculation.

Definitely. Each key except for the valet key, has a battery, which is charged each time you drive. If you don't use one key for a long period of time, the battery will run down, so, keep both keys charged at all times. Use one key one week, and the other the following so that both are constantly kept charged.

Long, high speed trips are great for charging the batteries, not to mention clearing the car's 'throat'.

Just to add to the key/battery thing, 01sport's key will be charged while driving, but 7iL's key's battery won't be charged. I think the charge while you drive keys started in the US in 99.
