Qsilver7 09-01-2006, 02:20 PM lower the rear trunk panel (the one that hides the rear of the tail lights). After all these years...the gaskets around the rear lights may be shot and are allowing water to seep in. Check this area for wetness/wet spots etc...or try to find where the water is coming in. The gasket around the trunk could also be the culprit...check around it to see if there is water seeping in and finding its wat to the low point of the trunk. Both of the above situations could allow water into the trunk without getting the carpeted lower lining wet...the water would work it way around and down the back side then into the lowered section of the spare wheel well. SE7EN40RTY 09-02-2006, 05:18 AM I have this same water issue and it turns out i'm not alone my friends with E38's also have insane amounts of water in their trunks. I would like to know the fix. fermunky 09-02-2006, 12:13 PM My E32 has the same problem, but mine seems to be the front right area of the trunk (behind rear right seat). Haven't taken a look yet, but someone told me to check where the strut comes through... how does that sound? crewdog843 09-02-2006, 12:14 PM Might be time for a controlled wetdown with some vegetable dye. Your rear window seal could be compromised, but the only way you will find the source is under controlled conditions. Sometimes you can find the source by running the engine with the airconditioning on full and all windows up. Run some soapy water in the areas you suspect may be leaking and look for bubbles. The obvious places to start would be any which utilize a rubber seal. My e30 was allowing water into the trunk through a poor weld under the lip of the tail light....this later turned into a cancer/rust. Luckily the area in which I now live has little rain, so the problem is not as great. jake |
