Is the charms of the M3 gone? The first car that I ever learned how to drive manual was my buddies' black e30 M3. That was 9 years ago and I remember that car not having any luxury features and was more about racing. The e36 is like that too, well mine is as I have a near bare bone M.
Has BMW marketing or future marketing of this car is to lie to us that this e92 will be specia? The only thing special is it's supposely V8. Has the M brand turn to a high powered luxury coupe. There are alot of performance luxury vehicles now and the M3 isn't what it was with the high price tag. Nobody would want to track an expensive vehicle like this and it's specs may not even do well around the tracks compared to it's past models. Just wanted you guys' insight on the direction of the Motorsport Division. It will still be built for racing but the consumers' M3 might be boring?

No.

The E30 M3 had leather on its seats, a radio and A/C, OBC, and a (optional) sunroof. The E36 M3 had all those and a CD changer. The E46 M3 had all this and optional navigation as well. Those really aren't luxury features, they're creature comforts that 99% of modern cars have. The new 997 GT3 RS will even have a sunroof and a radio. The point is that the E30 can be considered a little more pure, but I think a lot of people exaggerate the whole "E30 M3 is the REAL M3" thing.

I consider all the M cars that BMW makes special cars. They are among some of the best cars in the world because they combine incredible all around performance and everyday practicality. The E92 M3 will be heavy, but throw some coil-overs on and upgrade the brakes and it will keep up with most cars on the track. It's not a track car, but it will hold its own on the track just like the E46 M3 before it and the E36 M3 before that.

So, even the E46 M3 came with leather seats... So how come now, the E92 M3 is charging $1450 for the privelage of surrounding our butts with cowhide? Add to that $1900 to get electric seats, and thats $3350 just to sit down! On the E46, The price of the electric seat package was just $995. Now, to get seats with memory, its a grand more than that! Were Metallic colors extra on the E46? Well, they are now! This is going to be one expensive puppy when all is said and done.. Just, Please... let it be under 3700 lbs!!!!!!!!

Times change and the things that people want in their cars change as well. My first sports car was a 1972 240Z. It had no AC, no leather, no power anything. About the only thing it had of any "luxury" was a killer stereo (for its time).
That car (equipment) wouldn't sell in todays market. Well, not to the masses.
When I bought my fist BMW (7 Series) I thought the idea of heated memory seats a pretty stupid idea. Not today. When I bought the 528 I thought $750 for Xenon lights was absurd. Today I wouldn't consider buying a car without them.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that things change with time. And most of them for the good. Now, If I can just get use to the idea of a Nav system.
The cool thing is that there are still those older cars out there for those of us that have to have them....

WERD! I'm sick of people using the E30 M3 as a cop-out to claim that newer M's aren't pure. I have tons of fun driving my E46 M3 and can't wait until th E92 comes out.
We all can't forget that a 400+ bhp from a 4L V8 is in the engine of that beast. That's hardly luxury.
