I'm installing an ADS sub and amp combo that uses the Bavarian Autosport harness that plugs inbetween the factory harness. I can't get the plug undone on the factory amp for the life of me. Is there some trick i'm missing?

I pushed the pins together and pulled, I even tried grabbing it with pliers, the damn thing is on there! :complain What to do? I'm about to smash the damn thing

Thanks

Hey,
I worked on this a few months ago. There are two connectors to the amplifier. One is black, with a lever that pulls the connector shell free from the amp. I believe that you have to squeeze the sides and then use the lever to pry the shell free.

The second connector is a simple :) push in to install and pull to remove. Mine was very, very tight. What worked for me is to apply twisting forces to it, as if you were wiggling the connector end to end and side to side. After a lot of this, the connector finally broke loose.

Good luck,

MDR

I finally got it out right after I posted that :D What a PITA! I had to gently grab it with channel locks and work it out. It turned a 15 minute install into two hours  But it sounds great! :boink  :redspot

I'd be interested to hear how you like this sub setup. I'm trying to decide between this or a set of JL Stealthboxes that replace the rear speakers on the rear deck. The advantage I see here is the self-contained amp/sub in one unit. Disadvantage could be the lack of bass and how much trunk space you loose.
Where did you mount it in your trunk and how's it sound???

Do you have a parts # and/or picture of this harness? I can't find it on their site and was thinking of making one, for a future system, but have been putting it off do to not actualy wanting to put in the work ;). I'd love to see/know more about the harness.

Where did you find this?
How much did you pay?
Do you have any more info about who I can contact to find out more info?

The space it takes up is minimal. Also, by not using the stealth boxes I have extra speakers in the car for mids and highs/fill.

I bought the box and amp combo from my dad's business partner for $150   He said he paid about $650 from Bavarian.

I'll post pictures this evening.

hi guys...i havent posted in awhile but anyway...thought maybe i could offer assistance to the question about the jl stealthboxes..i have used just about every hi end piece of gear made for car audio (odr/xes/adcs/every hi-end alpine unit, denons, velodyne, a/d/s PX, orion concept, etc..) i used the jl stealthboxes in my m3/4 and the sound of those subs is VERY good if setup with a proper front stage....those who say they cant get realistic bass from these subs does not know what they are doing...Scott Buwalda used the same drivers in his nissan 240 in his front doors (yup..subs in the front doors) and won IASCA world championships multiple times...there is another car using them for subs/midbass/mids and that car is doing very well now also..they are in teh kickpanels in that car.....in my opinion u dont need mids and highs in the rear of the car....if u set up the front stage properly then u will hear music fine throughout the car but the driver and front seat passenger will have the best seats in the house..using rear speakers and not using some type of digital (or VERY specialized analog) processing to combine the sound from the drivers will lead to a meadiocre sounding system if REALISM is what your are trying to achieve...will u get realism...NO..will u be closer with setting the system up properly....YES...i used pure class A amps in my stereo (only REAL class A amps ever made for car audio were the ODR amps no matter what marketing types try to tell u about amp X or brand Y)....the stealthboxes are excellent and will give u enough bass to shake all the mirrors on the car with CLEAN LOW bass....using subs in the trunk will not be as effective unless u have fold down seats (and fold them down) or take the metal out of the ski hole for cars like mine and then put the sub right up against the hole....the more power u have the better as a rule also....u dont have to turn your sub amp up all the way but if u have reserve power your amp will run cooler and the bass will never be distorted....no negatives if your not an idiot really......
just my humble but experienced opinion...

Hey, check out this Site (http://www.autoacoustics.com/subwoofflatpk.htm) . They just came out with one for the drivers side of the 2-door coupe and I will hopefully get it after the holidays. It is an alternative to not taking up much trunk space and is cheaper than the stealthbox.

not sure if your addressing me....that can be a good alternative because u can pick any sub that will work well in that enclosure...if anyone wants/needs any assistance email me and i will be happy to help if u wish....but it still does not get around one major issue with the e36 trunk....its very difficult to get bass into the passenger compartment unless u fold down the rear seats....if u cannot fold down the rear seats then u will have ALOT of wasted bass just rattling your trunk....not my idea of a classy image in a bmw...not saying that u should use stealthboxes, just saying to be prepared for rattling and such that MIGHT present itself if u dont...and the aformentioned potential for lacking bass which most people contend with who do not use stealthboxes(read other threads on the subject in this newsgroup).....i bought my stealthboxes on this board or 315 for the pair in very good condition...i cant see how getting a pair of those enclosures and subs wll be cheaper if the subs are any good....the stealthboxes for the e36 are not boxes at all by the way...they are free air subs mounted in an adapter to make it fit the e36 speaker cutouts and seal to the rear deck...and to all u 3/4 owners.....the SAME stealthbox will work in ANY e36 M3 2 or 4 door....in the 4 door there is a minor mod u need to make which is COMPLETELY reversible....i know...i have done it.....if anyone wants to know what to do lemme know...

Audioman-

The enclosures from the UK look pretty good- I'm interested.

Did you get an OTD (shipping, duties) price on them? I'm assuming they don't have any US distributors.

Do tell!

guys-

I'm a track guy with not too much interest in audio. I can't get the factory connectors out either so I searched "amplifier removal"

Found it here!!!! Wiggled it and it came out with channel locks.

For the connector with the white latch over it make sure and push down the little tabs that are up against it with your fingernails and slide the white piece towards the other connector, then lift out the connector.

you guys rock with your Ipod connector doohickeys and crossover crossdresser thingies too!

PLUS...this thread is 6 years old!
