View Full Version : Pretty sure i'm moving home!
BCKane 08-26-2006, 10:34 PM Hey folks! Just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions. It looks like i'm going to be moving back to Hawaii in the next 2 months from NYC. I had a few different questions:
1. Anyone have any good or bad info on the "Coloney at the Penisula" development in Hawaii Kai? My wife and I are looking at getting a place there and were wondering if anyone had any experience at all (either that or stay in an apt below my parents place :( and look for the next 2 years).
2. I'm looking for place that works on First Evolution RX-7s. When we move home we are going to need two cars and i'll have to pull out the 78 RX-7. It needs a pretty good overhaul and some serious love to get her running again like she should. My father used to take her to Masa's (back when they would race rotory cars). Anyone have a better place?
Thanks in advance everyone!
Kawika
The Beastmaster 08-27-2006, 01:13 AM Colony @ The Peninsula is a very nice development that came up across Kaiser High. Nice place and I think the houses are $800k+.
sushipower 08-27-2006, 04:26 AM Theres about 30 listings ranging from 450 (1 bedroom) to 1.6M (3 bedroom)
Another options is Kalele Kai which is behind Hawaii Kai Safeway. I use to have an apartment there and was really happy. 2 bedrooms 2 bath with 1400 sqft living area, about 600k
The Beastmaster 08-27-2006, 05:26 AM Kalele Kai townhomes are nice too, but the dock fees were nuts!
sushipower 08-27-2006, 05:35 AM The dock fees has nothing to do with the townhomes. everyone who lives in the project has to pay marina dues.
The slips are sold separately.
sushipower 08-27-2006, 05:36 AM BTW, wacha doing home on a sat?
mz.368 08-27-2006, 08:08 AM It's like when the birds here fly south for the winter...seems the EC is making a migration to HI in the coming months :shifty
Best of luck with the move :)

That's what it was, marina fees! With that and maintenance, the monthly was @ $800 or so. That was nuts.

My Brother in-law owns 2 places there, rents one out and my mother in-law lives in the other. We're going there tonight to have dinner, as our nephew will be going off to University of Pennsylvania....leaving tonight!
Nice place, but I don't think I would live there...just not my kind of place.
BCKane 08-28-2006, 02:09 AM Thanks for the replies guys! We went to see an apt at the Colony and realy liked it. Unfortunately the family is telling us that the company that built the development is know for using shoddy materials and do pretty shoddy work. So it looks like we are looking at the Maunaluan and looking for other options at the moment, not sure if we are willing to bet $650 on a shoddy rep :rolleyes . Anyone have any suggestions?
How is everyones commute in to town from Hawaii Kai recently? I'm used to a 3 hr round trip commute, but haven't been in honolulu traffic for a long time.
The Beastmaster 08-28-2006, 03:57 AM Stanford Carr Development? They have a good reputation for building quality houses. They are not "custom" quality, but good quality materials are used throughout.

I'm back behind Kamiloiki school and if I leave at 6:30am it takes ~30mins, leave later and it will take ~1hr. If you live out towards the beginning of HK take off 10-15minutes of your commute bacause just getting out of HK has become a bitch (with all of those Peninsula condo's creating more traffic :mad )

well, when you compare it to those of us trying to migrate....OP has 3 hours a day, I have 100 miles a day (length of time depends on when I travel)....20 miles doesn't sound too bad, even when it takes an hour :D
sushipower 08-29-2006, 07:19 AM Downtown has a nice condo comming up its called "Capitol Place", no traffic no need to worry about parking. Just walk to work. Get drunk, just walk home.

+1
My current commute is a nice 10 min walk to the subway, take the subway 3 stops to near Pen Station, walk about 8 min to Pen, then catch a 40 min train, walk to the bus down the block, about 25ish min on the bus and then a 15 min walk to the office. If in miss any connections tack on about 30-40 min. Of course i get the daily company of "interesting" NY types who always keep you on your toes and laughing, so it is never boring.:rolleyes

Let me know, my wife is the manager for the project.

I think we will be looking at Kalele Kai this weekend. Any suggestions which 2br units are preferable? Only ones on the market now seem to be mauka views.
sushipower 09-02-2006, 10:19 PM Building 3 is the most desireable.
Building 1 and 2 get the even units they face the courtyard.
Make sure you find the location of the parking stalls.
