I got lucky today while looking for cars both for myself and my mom, and had the opportunity to drive two cars that I normally would get laughed at for even asking. Well start with the alright and leave with the fabulous.

The 6 was a 2005 with 15,000 miles on it, black with a buttery tan interior, automatic and convertable. The car was nice. It was very comfortable, you could still hear some of the engine, the interior set up was nice. However, the steering was really loose and it just didn't feel fast. I did drive it after the MZ4, which might have been why it felt slow, but it just didn't seem to have the omph a V8 that large should be. When shifted in sport mode it felt faster.

It was a very nice touring car, but just too big and too disconnected for me. Perfect for an old woman like my mom.

The MZ4... imola red on black, roadster. Just stunning. The steering wheel is almost too thick, and the brake petal is almost too sensitive. Aside from it being too much like a sport car in these aspects, wow, this car was absolutely amazing. Very fast, very responsive, it drove great. I have a little bit of trouble getting used to the flywheel. The RPMs drop like a lead weight, which made it hard for me to shift smoothly.

I got to drive it through some turns. The car stuck to the road as if the tar was still tacky. Just felt great, so stable, and very nimble. It was a great car to drive. My mom loved it too, but prefered the 6 because she wants a back seat. She doens't like the E46 M3.

I have not had a lot of trouble the few times I've hooked up against the 645 in my ancient steam powered S52 powered M Coupe. They don't seem all that fast.

I've read the 6er convertible does not drive like one would expect from the typical BMW. Who could possibly sit in that backseat btw...unless it's just for throwing junk back there. Why not get your mom a 330cic or S4 cabrio? Would she really use the MZ4 to its potential, that's quite a car for an "old" woman as you said.

That's the nature of the 6.

Same thing with the 1980's era 6.

She has a 996 targa right now. Trust, me, the 6 series back seat is WORLDS better than her current car. At 5'3 I am at the max for what fits in that backseat, my head touches the glass roof. The 6 series is a lot more comfortable. They are building a house in Fresno, so she wants something bigger and more comfortable for the long trips. But yeah, if I had a 996, I would not go off and buy a 6 series to replace it with, that's for sure. It is a lot more comfortable, like she wants, but at the expense of a lot of performance and fun.

Yea, 996/997 rear seats are for keeping insurance prices down and maybe little kids. I just can't get over how ugly the 6er is personally...I saw an M6 on the road today and it looks decent but I think the M part is what entices me.

I just went and checked out the E92, the rear seats were suprisignly decent though headroom was still a bit tight for me (6`0) but anyone shorter could comfortably sit back there for a period of time, especially with the rear air vents, cupholders, armrest, etc.

They had an E92 at the dealership. I showed it to her, because that is what I think she should get. She thinks it is pretty, but I think she is tired of 3 series, she didn't want to really even look at it. Maybe she's just a snob, she can afford more so she doesn't care. I don't know, but it is her money, and the 6 would be a good car for her.

Style wise it has never been my favorite, but all and all, it's a nice car for someone who doesnt' care for feel.

But they had the coolest back seats of any BMW!
