Has anyone used the bavauto sport spring set?
http://www.bavauto.com//assets/product_images/bas/springs.jpg

I've decided on the shocks that I want, but haven't really heard a lot on these springs specificly.

Good question.

spring rate?

I dont think they list it on their site.
But, from what i have heard from Jack Roberts on the e21 email digest,
HR lowering springs and suspension techniques have close to the optimum spring rate.
I had these rates on my computer till it blew up. I forgot what they are now.

Others like my Racing Dynamics lowering springs according to Jack,
do not have a spring rate that is optimal.

I have heard that the BavAuto springs are softer (lower spring rate) than the other brands (Eibach, H&R, ST, etc.). I might try them on my E39, which is used by my wife as a daily driver, just to improve the stance (it is a non-sport model and sits too high).

I recently installed Eibachs and Bilsteins on the Schwarz E21 and ride quality is good with a noticeable improvement in handling.

Brandon Whitehead swaped HR lowering springs for a set of Eibachs.
According to him they are about the same, in terms of feel,
but the eibachs where slightly lower drop then then HRs.

I "heard" that the BavAuto springs are H&R's, from a source at BavAuto

One of my car buddies has a set of Bav. Auto springs with Billie sports. He complained that it was harsh, but I havnt talked to him for a few months so maybe it was something that he had to get used to. I know the car was TIGHT with that setup; you couldnt get the front or rear to bounce at all on rebound. I have early p/n eibachs on mine and I dont like how low it is- it looks great but I scrape on speedbumps if Im not careful. Something I gotta get used to:rolleyes.

Most surely it's the Sports that are making it harsh. My '02 has Eibachs with Sports and it is very tight. The Bilsteins on the E21 are HD's, also with Eibachs, and the ride is much better, although handling isn't as good.

I'm having the same experience as you with the E21. It is very low and both the front spoiler and the exhaust system scrape on speedbumps unless I'm extra careful.

:embarrasm I got high centered momentarily while parking on a little paved hill at a brew pub a couple of weeks ago...nothing like everyone looking at the guy making loud scraping noises while he tears his car off the damn makeshift parking space! :shifty

I want to try HD's with my current eibochs- and set the rear perch to the highest setting to maybe raise the car a little in the rear? Would that do it? Right now I have original Boge's that the car came with. Way too spongy. :help

sorry to threadjack:)

That's the setup I was thinking of doing. Did he have problems scraping?

I just talked to him 4 you and he said that his poorly hung cat scrapes, but his muffler doesnt and neither does his front xmember or oil pan- however once in a while his iS spoiler will drag a little if he goes too fast out of a parking garage or driveway. BTW, I also just found out that he has HD shocks, NOT sports. Sorry for the confustion.

Right on man, thanks!
Sorry for this if I'm wrong, I'm a noob, but the sports are stiffer (more stiff, whatever) than HD's, right?

No, they are valved the same. The sports are for sport springs, HD's for normal ride hight springs. Confused?:D The HD's work fine with most lowering springs out there. The shorter travel doesnt seem to put too much stress on them and they work fine. Classic Motorsports Magazine put them on thier Volvo when they put sport springs on it. But if the springs are too low, like say 1.8" or more, CM said they would have to use the sport billies. Every catalog will pair sports with their lowering springs, though. In the end it's up to you. The prev. owner of my car put older eibochs on with the stock Boges. This is supposed to wear out the shocks from what I read, but all it did was move the travel lower on the shock. They are WAY to soft though, esp up front, and that's why I bottom out. The back isnt so bad and is actually comfortable, it's just that my sewer pipe muffler hits:shifty
good luck, you will be glad you did this mod. A strut bar is another level of fun:buttrock

Thanks for the info, that cleared it up for me. And yeah, I hope to make my own sway bars somewhat soon, too. I was reading of people who didn't like them on the front, but I liked it on my old Datsun, so I'll go with it on my e21 too. I want to make my own rear sway bar too.
...someday...
