I shipped Casper (white 1995 M3) to the health spa in California (San Andreas). Since we were down to the Jeep and Kirsten's 535I with blown head gasket, we decided to buy a new, to us, BMW. We looked at and drove a 2000 M5 with low mileage but it had some issues, so we bought a low mileage 2002 M3 which is only about six months newer then the 2001 M3 in my sig (that one got sold so we could buy a house here in Hawaii).
Kirsten's 535I is hard down and awaiting an engine swap which will be done soon.
On August 11, I took Casper to Thunderhill, Northern Cal, for a little exercise. I signed up with TrackMasters as an advanced intermediate (that's why there is a green dot on my car in the picture) to run with a combined group with the advanced group. The advanced group has open passing everwhere on the track but since I had the green dot, they had to wait for a point by before they could pass me. This run group shared the track day with BMWCCA Club Racing, Porsche Owners Club Racing, and a huge NASA race event that also included a HPDE. Our run group got four 25 minute sessions which was plenty. My run group had a Ford GT!!, two C6 Z06 Corvettes, two C5 Z06 Corvettes, a Factory 5 Cobra, a Porsche GT3, a Carrera 4, an Evo, a Cadillac CTS-V and many other fast cars. Out of about 25 cars, I ended up being about mid pack in this run group but I know that with some practice I could do much better. I stayed an extra day to watch some of the racing on Saturday and to meet up with a pilot friend who recently completed a Factory 5 Cobra. He was going to do the NASA HPDE.
I hope to do another track day in November at Sears Point. It will probably be raining; not a good thing on that unforgiving track.
