I was pulling out of the parking lot at a local strip mall and I noticed a spanking new 06 Saleen Mustang....I pulled around to take a look....it had a 281 tag over a supercharged badge on the front fender...{means nothing to me}....the owner came out while i was looking..."nice ride" I said...he says thanks and we talk about the car....he tells me it 435hp at the crank and its the way it comes from the dealer....he just got it a week ago....after a short chat I asked if he's willing to run me....he gladly accepts.....we head down to an area thats wide open on the freeway and wait for no traffic...its about ten pm and fairly quiet....pull off the off ramp and he gets beside me....40mpr....I'm in second gear ....we start to run it up a bit and three honks we go.....I'm right in the power band and I pull real well....the Saleen is right beside me....I hit third and he pulls a half car....before I hit 4th he's a whole car ahead.....he pulled steady from there.....we did it twice more with the same results......I'm running about 350hp to his 435 but I'm geared low.....it was a fun race....he says he's getting an upgrade...to make him in the 500hp area.....very nice car...anyone really know the saleen cars.....i was real impressed.....I've beat 05 06 GTs.....this thing handed me my butt....fun to run a decent guy with no attitude.

:eek: An S281? I haven't seen one of those yet! He had the Supercharged model (Duh, it basically said that), the middle-class one, overshadowed by the Extreme which puts out something like 550hp. Fast as hell cars, I'm told, but not quite as tuneable as a Cobra or something.

There's something about the new mustangs without spoilers that looks naked to me... the Saleen looks bigger and heavier than the normal GT, almost like a tank. It looks good, but seems like if you tried to turn it would just keep going straight..

THAT S281 is, there's a 550hp version whcih weighs about the same ammount, more like 3700lb iirc but I'm not 100% on that.

the most important upgrade to potential Saleen buyers is the increase in horsepower for the 2006 model year. With the new Z06 Corvette, and Shelby Cobra GT500 (http://www.muscularmustangs.com/2005/news0003gt500.php) being released with extremely high horsepower numbers it only makes sense that buyers are going to be looking for a hp increase across the board. To combat this Saleen is increasing the power in their mid range Mustang, the S281 SC (supercharged), to 435hp. An increase of 35hp over the 2005 model's 400hp output. Although this number is far from the Z06 Corvette's 505hp, it takes a nice lead over the standard Corvette's 400hp rating. On another note, although this number seems to be close to the Shelby Cobra GT500's rating of "over 450hp" the reality of it is that the GT500 will likely be putting out closer to 500hp. So the main question is, which will buyers go for? The extremly slick styling, and superior handling of the Saleen SC or the grunt of the GT500? I guess only time will tell, but then again Saleen still offers the option of their "Extreme" model with an estimated 500hp for those looking for that grunt and styling.

This is a 1 off by PowerPlant of North Carolina by Henry Laurence. The M70 engine bored and stroked to 6L. Thus the 860. More details in the 8 series Forum.

Dang!!! Even my Jaguar X-Type 3.0 is a glorified Ford but it is more plush than the 330Xi (Apples to Apples compariuson) and I walk E46 330s all day.

I have not yet seen a new Saleen S281 mustang yet on the street, nor the new Cobras which dont come out till late this year so dont nobody say you raced that because ill make you look stupid, nor the new SHelby GT500's but i can't wait to see them thats all i gotta say.
