Left work at the club, and while leaving downtown I heard this hellacious noise. Couldn't see what was making the racket, just saw the smoke. Whatever it was, it was racing a bunch of Hondas, and beating them because the "smoke" always made it to the light before the V-tards. I thought whatever cooks rice that fast I want to see.

Made it to a light, heard the noise, but didn't see anything. Just as the light was about to change, I looked over next to me and saw what appeared to be the cast of Blue Collar TV all jammed into this crew cab pickup; grinning from ear to ear as Jethro powerbraked the snot out of this turbo diesel. Ha!

The light turned green and I took off normally and watched as the pickup became a spec on the horizon.

As luck would have it, I met up with Klan Bubba at the next light, and one of the passengers says "boy you need ta pay more tention when the light terns."

I said "ok" and I'll try to keep up.

He powerbrakes it again to the point the truck is twisting like a piece of cooked pasta- the light turned green and we both took off. He was right at my bumper through 1 st and I started walking him SLOWLY in second, and a bit more quickly by 3rd where I stopped racing.

Because of the altitude, non-turbo cars pay a huge penalty, but that truck was quick!

I talked to the guy, and he said he just had it dyno'ed and it made 543 hp and 800 ft/lbs. to the wheels.

Fun to say the least! Very cool guys.

Every one who can afford it cranks up diesel trucks around where I'm from. A buddy of mine is pushing 700hp and over 1000lb-ft to the wheels in a dodge. For being 7,200 pounds his truck can really move. I've seen full bodied trucks run in the 9's.

Plus all the thick black smoke makes it hard to drive when your car is filled to the top. He does that to me whenever my window is down.

are you kidding me. good kill but comparing what a truck does to a M3? shouldn't be mentioned in the same thread. M3 is a finely tuned engineered sports coupe, made to run circles. a truck is made to haul stuff around.

diesels rock
all those trucks need is a performance chip and some thick exhaust too put out some even more serious hp

What made it even better, was that the people in the truck were having a good time and obviously playing up the fact that most people are shocked to see a truck move like that.

You're right. It will haul a load of garden supplies from Home Depot AND haul ass. Infact, the truck probably would have been faster if it would have had something in the bed, because traction was an issue.

It absolutely should be mentioned in the same thread. To 60 mph, if I hadn't been paying REAL close attention, that "lowly" truck would have left me. Simple as that.

Close to 600 whp and 800 ft/lbs is no joke. Car, truck, or riding lawnmower.

If you think I am kidding, try poking around a tuned turbo diesel with your car sometime and you will see what I mean.

those turbo diesels are awesome.....one of my clients has a side hobby of drag racing his dodge dualie cummins diesel......thats right, a 4 door, 6 wheel, gigantic truck he's tuned for drag racing. It will beat 98% of the cars on this board and can still pull his boat and pick up a load of mulch and carry 6 people. Thats just ridiculous.

Its running mid 10's. He's currently upgrading his turbo, its not big enough for him!

I'm always lining up with diesels where i live... They're the only decently quick vehicles around. My boss just got a 2000 7.3 powersmoke, and with a 300$ chip installed he got something like 120 hp. His exhaust is comin in soon, but im still trying to talk him into propane injection with some larger injectors, then it'll really move.

Most of the diesels around my area are built for truck pulling, and more than a few can light 'em up at over 100mph. Just think setting up a truck to pull between 40 and 70 thousand pounds, and what it will do with nothing behind it.

at the races here in seattle, we had a ls-vtec stripped hatch that was smoking everything, he lines up and no one wanted to race him. while were all standing around waiting for someone, we see a pickup coming through(assuming it one of the people that lived in the area) we tried to let him through. so we move some cars out of the way, then all of a sudden he stops next to the hatch! WHAT! He lines up with him, were like ok, get smoked? so while he is power braking, he is shooting BLACK smoke at the hatch! SO funny. They both take off, by half track the truck has dam near 10cl on it!!!!! Then he just kept going, never saw him again? so SWEET! Just went on home! baller

Diesel trucks kick ass. I have a buddy with a 2006 Dode ram 4x4 dually. ENORMOUS truck. Pimp as shit inside... woodgrain, leather, infinity sound etc. He has a 6" lift with 22" 18 wheeler rims (10 lug!) 5" exhaust, a larger holset turbo, and 3 stacked chips.... one is called the "crazy larry" and when he loads the program you can hear the truck totally change sound... its rediculous. Broke the transmission and replaced it with an insane aftermarket one that was like $11,000 .. big giant purple thing with a 6" deep pan. He maxed out the injectors (o6 have the common rail injection... hes been on a waiting list for months now for new injectors) dynoed @ 540rwhp and pegged the dyno's torque rating @ 1400rwtq. Supposedly the new injectors, if they ever come, will put him at somewhere around 800rwhp and who knows what tq.

He can SMOKE ALL 6 TIRES IN 2nd GEAR!

Diesels are VERY nice indeed.
A friend runs the same truck. a Chevy with the big V8 TD engine and that thing is fast even though he just put a small powerbox unit in it. Boosted power by 100 hp for ~100$.. You canīt beat the price per HP on that.

I boosted my little 320 Diesel by 20% for ~120$.. Iīm nowhere NEAR the numbers on the trucks, but it gets around.. 180 hp and 290 ft/lbs isnīt too bad when your run 40MPG in town..

As I love all things automotive, I regularly pick up obscure mags as well, so I'm up to speed (pardon the pun).

If you're interested in diesel power, pick up the latest issue of "Diesel Power" magazine http://www.dieselpowermag.com/ . They have the results of a recent shootout... they feature on average 1000+ lb.ft machines! And most of these were based on factory duramax/powerstroke/cummins stock internal engines. Some were running in the 12's.

Trucks are FTMFW thats for sure especially with a turbo diesel spoolin up.Ya one day while getting on tollway I am next to this 2500 chevy didn't even think of it being turbo diesal and that it mattered. So I am inpatient and start edging forward a couple times he revs at me and I stomp it when light goes green and walks me like Im on a segway lol.I felt pretty dumb but I do have a 325i so my whole 189 hp isn't a match for much .

I put the Edge chip and volant intake in my Dad's truck and boy, it makes a huge difference. they say in level 5 just the chip give 150 hp and 300 ft lbs. costs about $1500 for full exhaust, intake and chip. 2006 duramax 3\4 ton and 4x4....still averages 16 mpg. I stayed with a stock gst eclipse on the freeway in only level 3! Up to about 100mph.

I HATE those f#$4cking trucks, some a$$hole with one down the street who is compelled to burn out at the stop sign next to the house where my 87 year old grandma lives and shake the whole damn house, i swear if i see him walking in front of my grandmas im gonna beat the sh*t out of him, sorry just a little off topic, nothing impressive about a truck with a 1000hp whos engine is the size of a mini couper.

If gas was priced like it was 40 years ago, I'd daily drive the heck out of a Turbo diesel truck. Screw Hummers...

They must have started becoming more and more popular to mod, because I never heard about them until about 2 years ago. We have a mildly modded Ford powerstroke diesel truck that runs mid-8s in the 1/8th mile w/ a some spin at the launch. That's hauling for a 7000+lbs truck!

The only drawback is when it is time to fill up. Last time I checked, Diesel was upwards of 2.80-2.90 a gallon in my area.:(

Might as well have the fuel truck stop at your home before starting their route since you're gonna take half of the tank anyways!:D

yea, but its still more powerful than my 8.1L, and it gets about 6-7 mpg better and its faster! In a business where you need some good pulling power, its great.

I totally agree. I was just hacking on trucks since I sold my last one due to MPG ('03 lightning). Turbos > blowers in the MPG department.

My brother-in-law just bought an '06 dodge double-cab, dually w/ the cummins to pull a trailer for his work (delivers for Sara lee). It has a nice interior, a 6-speed manual, and a rear diff. the size of Michael Moore. That thing oughta last a long, long time. My evo will be in a scrap yard long before that cummins is ready for a rebuild. I am trying to get him to mod it...so far he has a CAI.
