View Full Version : Understeer's Failure to Honor Price
z3papa 08-18-2006, 01:54 PM The link below outlines the entire debacle. Needless to say, I feel that any vendor or business which attracks a purchasers to buy/order products, and irrevocably commit funds for payment of same on an item they are advertising, they should honor the price. Before posting here, I wanted to give Chris@understeer.com every opportunity to do the right thing. I have decided to receive my refund and go with another vendor here.

BMWManiac 08-18-2006, 10:14 PM I've never had a negative experience dealing with Chris at understeer.com, always great service and speedy shipment of goods.
bimmer95 08-19-2006, 12:55 AM It was a simple price error on a special order part that's time consuming to repackage and ship. I offered to sell them at my wholesale price, he refused, end of story. And no, I don't get charged any credit card fees on the refund.

Why didn't you just take the $70 loss since you know it was an error in your part not the buyer. You would have kept a customer and avoid all this trouble. Was all this worth $70 to you?
z3papa 08-19-2006, 07:46 AM As I said to Chris on the phone without wanting to engage further in an argument, this is simply bad business practice. He said the price was from a promotion a few months back (one which I had confirmed several times before ordering) and that he simply hadn't changed it. Sad thing is that another vendor here has a price match gaurantee which would have meant I would have gotten it for the price he showed on his site had I instead contacted them and asked them to match. Oh well, I hope this is a learning lesson for both of us.
///Maniak 08-19-2006, 10:29 AM Sorry to hear it went down like that, I've had nothing but good experiences with Chris.
vinnymac 08-19-2006, 07:15 PM I've bought from Chris numerous times and always had good experiences.
Firefighter 08-19-2006, 09:05 PM I had a bad experience with Chris too. I wrote a post about it too. Simply, he lost a customer over $60.

Do you guys run businesses? I would like to shop with you, since you must never make mistakes. :rolleyes

Its not about never making a mistake. But if you make a mistake you should take the loss since it is YOUR mistake.
z3papa 08-20-2006, 02:22 AM To answer your question, yes I run a business and when I make a mistake or quote someone a fee less than what would be the norm, I honor it and chalk it up as a learning lesson. That's how I was raised. I have frankly never had a retailer or vendor ever say, "I know you presented an item I had listed as being price X for sale, you paid for it, and now I want X plus $70" and suggest it was wrong for me to expect to receive the price advertised. Just for the record, if it were a $5000 item which was clearly marked in error for $500, the error would be obvious to any buyer and unenforceable. When it's like it is here, it is enforceable since its' not clearly an error. Am I going to sue for enforcement? No-- but I could have. Under strict legal terms its about an offer to sell as advertised and acceptance of that offer by tendering the sales price which makes it a binding contract. Now in all due respect, I just as soon let this die and have my thread work its way away from the top of the heap without having to respond further.
For the record, I am happy for all of Chris' customers who have had positive transactions. Like any doctor who may have malpracticed, but does not do so all the time, Chris sounds like a vendor who generally comes through but did not in this instance. I was asked to post this experience and have. See ya.
Seeker 08-20-2006, 12:05 PM always had positive exp. with Chris here too.
He made an error and refunded your money 100%.
No harm done.
jrhaile 08-20-2006, 01:36 PM Sorry this happened to you OP... I will always be a die hard Understeer fan. That's the beauty of this the BMW market, you can order from so many places. Good luck.
