I have never posted a story in here (likely because I don't street race unless it's very late, ie 2 or 3 a.m. or it's a completely open road with just the two of us), but this one was worthy of a thread and post.

I was coming back from my fiancee's apartment late last night around 12:30 a.m. on I95 (for the locals) toward D.C. when I noticed a black E60 merging onto the beltway. I immediately grinned and gave it a bit of throttle to catch him. Just some background information, my car is a 944 Turbo with a good amount of performance parts into the engine. My last dyno was 480rwhp/468rwtq and that was about a year ago and I have since upgraded injectors, new, more aggressive tune, and I'm running a few more pounds of boost. I'm estimating now I'm closer to 600rwhp or so.

Anyway, I give her some throttle and as I'm catching up, I notice the guy gets on it hard as I heard that V10 SCREAM with all its might. I lay into it in 5th just to see what the M5 has to offer me. It was not a match. I caught him in a heartbeat and passed him before shifting into 6th and let off as I knew what I would do to him. When I let off, he quickly got next to me with a look of :eyecrazy on his face. I :evil2 and waved to him.

I noticed he was decreasing speed to about 50 or so and I went along with him. He pointed forward and I made the motion for him to go first. He didn't want any of that (OK, I told myself, whatever you want). I gave him to go on "3". After the third honk, we were off. As soon as I hit 5000, I was gone. It was as if he was standing still. I gained ~3 cars before letting off the throttle as there's no way he was going to catch up. He got next to me and pulled his window down. He yelled something to the extent of, "to 150" or the like. I nodded. The first race was only until 120, I thought that was enough, but not him. For me, getting from 120-150 is nothing with this car.

Again, we get down to 50 and I start honking. I pound the gas and start leaving him way behind. I hit 120 and kept on it. 130, 140, 150 and I could barely see him in my rearview; now I don't know if he just gave up or if I really pulled on him that hard. My guess is I pulled on him that hard. I'm probably good for 135-140+mph traps now.

He gets next to me, waves, and still has that :eyecrazy I can't believe this just happend to my car look.

I love that car, though. Man does that V10 sounds awesome at WOT. It's like pure heaven on earth. He was a chill guy. We cruised about 10 miles next to one another giving blips of the throttle and cat and mousing around until my exit came. I waved and he waved, we parted our ways.

I love meeting enthusiasts like that guy. Hopefully, he'll start modding and we can meet again one day.

Happy motoring!:alright

993 or 944?

He said in his post 944.

I have sat and driven Vic's car and it is assinine. Every single time you get on the throttle, you feel like your stomach is going to come out of your mouth. Seriously, we hit 140 from a 10mph punch like it's nothing. The 993 has a couple upgrades as well ... it's no comparison at all to the 944, actually, the only other car that has scared me more than his car was a 900rwhp Lingenfelter C5 Twin Turbo.

Nice one, Vic ... we gotta meet up again, soon, man ... how's Nadia?

Sounds like a fun little race. I didn't know a 944 could handle that much power. A guy I know at work is prepping on for a 944 spec race series with the POC.
I am thinking that if that guy in the M5 wasn't prepared to race, maybe he didn't have his car in the max sport setting. Don't the normally run in 400hp mode then you have to select the top speed mode or something to get all 500 and quicker shifts. I would have expected a little more out of it, as apparently did the guy driving. Great story though.

The E60 is one HELL of a fast car, but Vic' car is pushing probably 700HP and weighs what, 900lbs less, Vic?

He trapped 122mph and was running in the 11's two years ago and that was before the motor was rebuilt and turbo upgrade. His car is easily a 10-second car now ... easily.

Oops, I apologize. I was in the 944. The thread title in incorrect. Come to think of it, the 993 would've been a much better race.

Levik,
Nadia is doing well. She's a bit stressed from work, but she's hanging in there.

The car should be a 10-second car now. I have not tried her out yet and I honestly don't have the urge to try. I know what she can do. From what it was, she should be trapping in the high 130's/low 140's.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm really curious to see what mods you have. I know of only 1 street driven 951 with over 500 whp (ST ring a bell?). I know 951's are easy to modify to reach 350-400 whp. Please tell us your mods and show us some pics.... I can only imagine what a ~2900-3000 lbs car with 600 Whp feels like. That must be a beast...

I know he upgraded and now has the Super 75 turbo or whatever from Lindsey racing. Other than that, I know he has the MAF upgrade and full exhaust ... I don't know how much boost he's running and what all he did to the motor (ie headworkm, internals, cam change etc.).

All I know is that he's got one FAST car.

mm kay, so i'd like to know how many turbo S transaxles youve destroyed and what you've done to the brakes/suspension. turbo S stock drivetrain/suspension/brakes couldn't handle all that power.

check the forums on rennlist.com....plenty of 944 turbo owners there you can compare notes with.

if your 951 has the power you say, it's no surprise you could pull on an M5, as they only weigh about (edit) 1000lbs more than you do.

Maybe it was the same M5 that beat me the other night. I've only seen one black one around the DC area.

Kapolani- I live down in Lexington Park too. We have a little car club down here that happens to have a couple modded Evos. We meet up and hang out alot, if you're interested let me know. Plus if you are serious about picking up a 944 Turbo I would be glad to show you mine and give you some pointers.

I think I know which club you're talking about, but was never able to find much info about it.

I may have even seen your car on 235 a couple of times. Silver/grayish? If so - sweet car...

PM me the next meet. I'd love to check out your car.

So it's running stock/piggybacked engine management and a Super 75..... certainly not a 2.5L then. Minimum for that kind of power with that turbo is a built 2.8L/3L. I've been a 2.8L car with Tec3 and what amounted to every major Lindsey part. The Super 75 isnt very efficient IMO, was never really impressed with the power/spoolup. He must be pushing 25+psi to make those kind of power levels. Nice kill, and it sounds like a nice car, BUT I'm a bit skeptical till I see specs/pics.

(No disrespect intended, I'm just one that likes to see things in front of me).

Motor is a 3.0 out of an S2. I still have the Super 75, but I'm thinking about going custom soon. This turbo is a bit too laggy for my taste and kicks too hard all of a sudden; I'm not a fan of that kind of sudden surge in power. It makes the car quite uncomfortable to drive. It's really not hard to make 500+rwhp with this car. I'm on a Centerforce clutch.

I am peaking ~28psi; I normally run anywhere 21-22 pounds on the streets. This isn't my daily driver. The motor has about 9000 miles and the body has close to 40K. I drive this car at most 2 or 3 times/year and I usually just borrow my uncle's dealer tag to drive around with as the car doesn't have tags or anything of the sort.

I'm usually only transporting to and from the track with this car.

Here's a pic way back in the day before I went crazy on it (I believe I just had a turbo back when these pics were taken):

Cornet, you should talk to Jon at Vitesse. My Stage III makes almost as much power as the Super 75 and I have trouble keeping the damn thing out of boost when I'm driving normally. He has two larger options too. Spools as well as the stock 26/6.

Yea thats a clean looking Porshce, just as clean as my buddy's 944 but his interior is shot. How do you produce that much power? Did you swap out the tranny and the drive shaft. With the amount of power you're claiming to produce it would destroy the drive line pretty quick. Then again, you only drive it a couple times a year. Tracking it would cause symptoms of a failing drive line.

M3AVUS
08-22-2006, 03:00 AM
Also on a side note, when I drove his 944 it was pretty nimble but in no means I would ever imagine his car kicking down that much power. Also, factoring in the age of the car compared to the M5 it's hard to believe. I'm trying imagine a TT setup in his car that would take out an M5 and it would involve a weight reduction and a new driveline that would transfer that power. Well, I'm not familiar with older P-cars if possible you got nice car. I would not mind at all to own something that nice.

Uhh, no? As long as you do NOT launch these cars they are pretty much bullet proof. You do realize that whimpy driveshaft your talking about is actually a 1inch piece of chromeoly in 4 aluminum/steel pressed bushings right? I've NEVER heard of anyone breaking them. You could claim spider/ring and pinion, but if you dont launch the car those dont break either.

I do not know what your information source is, but I recommend you change it quickly as that's about as much mininformation as you can get. Yes, I do this track, pretty much every single time I drive her (with the once-in-a-blue-moon street driving), and I have YET to experience a transmission/clutch issue. This car is bulletproof, as mentioned above. It can take quite a bit of hard abuse.

I have only launched this car once at the 1320' and do not plan to do that again. It was just to see roundabout where I was with the power.

MPD47,
Thank you. I will look into Vitesse and see what my options are.

I had a ride in a built TT Supra and that huge whack of power does make the car a pure straight line beast. Fun but if you were on a roadcourse and that happened at the wrong time there would be very little you could do to handle it. I would imagine you could simply dial down the boost if you were to run on a roadcourse.

I had a much less dramatic experience when I thought I would easily pull away from a Golf getting on the freeway in my E34 M5 only to see him up my ass at 100mph. I met the guy later and he in fact did have a supercharger on it. Love the sleeper.

2 things I hated about my 944:

1) too much noise from the transaxle amplified up the torque tube made me think the car was gonna break all the time (I actually did break a ring/pinion once :-p)

2) torsion bars.... WTF? WHY? too much squat, even with indexed bars and koni yellows, and it wasnt like you could just throw in a set of springs and lower it
