View Full Version : 328is vs 02 Maxima vs 00 Eclipse GT
valkut 08-17-2006, 11:37 AM This is may first post in this forum but i have been reading the kill stories for a while. anyways i thought i would contribute to the kill stories. couple of nights ago i rased an 02 maxima from start two times. every time wee took of i was ahead of him by about 2 cars untill we hit 55 and i had to shift to third, after that he would catch up to me and pass me like i was on a cisic. why is that? i know that he has a 3.5l in his maxima but i didnt think it it would be that fast. last night he pulls up next top me on a red light on a 2000 eclopse gt. now that thing was not stock. he had straight pipe, muffler and an intake. he is known to take on srt4 on that thing. so we take off on green and we stay the together untill about 70 and he starts to slowely pull away. he claims that he eclipse is alot faster than the maxima. i dont know but maybe he is wrong.
sprp85 08-17-2006, 11:46 AM 02 Maxima..
VQ35 engine I believe?
one of the best V6 engines in the world they say..
EOSphoto 08-17-2006, 12:04 PM 02 Maxima 6spds are very fast, my roomate has one with cloth/no sunroof etc and it ran 14.1 @ 99 mph bone stock. After that he got intake/ypipe/header/pulleys and would consistently beat my 97 M3 with intake/crank pulley by about 2-3 cars.
O2 is the previous body style? raced one in my Z3 once. Dead even until 185 km/h when I pulled away. God bless the M50 manifold.
carrrnuttt 08-17-2006, 12:08 PM Stock 2K2-2K3 Maximas are capable of 14.3 in the right conditions.

Here's one with bolt-ons and ECU (auto): http://www.dragtimes.com/Nissan-Maxima-Timeslip-4572.html
evo connevo 08-17-2006, 12:11 PM the 00gt with exhaust and intake should not be that fast... Nowhere near as fast as an srt. It might be close for a gear from a dig but for anything else it would get dusted. Maximas trap around 98 to 100 or so and eclipses of that year are in the lower 90s
carrrnuttt 08-17-2006, 12:15 PM BTW, about you being ahead from the jump, 1st gear on a 6-speed Max is VERY low, and the TQ is high for a V6 (225WTQ stock) and punching it in first will have you spinning through the WHOLE gear, with the whole wrong-wheel drive thing.
he claims that he eclipse is alot faster than the maxima. i dont know but maybe he is wrong.
And you would be right, as your own races show.
Brewster 08-17-2006, 04:35 PM 02-03 maximas are quick y0. my mom has one that i get to drive pretty frequently, it's a nice car.

valkut 08-18-2006, 03:07 PM the maxima is automatic. if it was 6 speed i stood no chance. as for the eclipse being faster than the maxima, it was proven in a race. the eclipse takes the maxima by about 2 cars till about 120mph, his favorite saying is that it is not always about the car its about the gasket between the seat and the stearing wheel, the driver that is. by the way the maxima also has an intake. maybe his eclipse has something that he does not know about.

Im surprised you lost to an eclipse, how fast were the older maximas the mid 90s maximas.
3rdone 08-18-2006, 04:22 PM not fast at all...I currently have one. It is a dog
abradic 08-18-2006, 07:02 PM Im surprised you lost to an eclipse, how fast were the older maximas the mid 90s maximas.
I had a 99 Maxima (known as Gen IV 95-99). It was fairly quick, many got into very high 14's stock...like 14.8. The mags had it listed 0-60 in 6.6s and 15.1 1/4 mile. This was in 5-speed mode. The auto was 0-60 in 7.2 and 1/4 of 15.7. Trap speeds I believe were around 93 mph. I know from my experience that the 5-speed had nice pickup even over 100 mph and hit over 130 mph with no problem. A little loss in acceleration from roughly 135-143 mph. Very well balanced for only 190 hp.

Ah, there's the delusional 328 driver there now. I was wondering when you'd show up to call BS, what with your unbeatable 328 and all.
Anytime you are in AZ, there's a 2002 Maxima 6-speed here willing to run you. Stop. Roll. Whatever. Bring a camera.

no worky for me.
j23a45m 08-20-2006, 10:52 AM great race.
im doing a 3.5 swap in my 98 Se. but no 6speed, ima keep the 5speed lsd from the I30.
ohnoes 08-20-2006, 11:22 AM That Streetfire vid is pretty cool.
I didn't realize the potential of those 3.5L Maximas. But, I'm wondering: why didn't they make them RWD? That sort of power can lead to serious torque steer...
PirateJake 08-20-2006, 11:35 AM wow dude, i had no idea about maximas... maxima FTW!
i'm seriously really taken back... i had no clue

They do torque steer like a mofo.
valkut 08-20-2006, 11:24 PM Ok. we raced again tonight. This time is was not as bad. there were 5 cars involved. a e46 330, a 99 m3, 00 eclipse GT, 02 MAXIMA, me on my 328is,
the 330, me and the eclipse stayed together untill about 110, the m3 took off about 3 car lengths ahead, and the maxima was left behind by about a car length. this time it was better. i guess my car was not running right the night i raced the maxima for the first time. plus i had some tune up work done to my 328is, maybe that helped a little. now if het that intake and an exhaust the eclipse should be history. right , or do i need more to beat that son of the gun. anyways it was a good night and a great race. maybe the 328 's are not that bad after all. oh yeah i almost forgot to mention that my car has well over 190k miles on it. and it still pulls like a mofo.

Is this Maxima a 6-speed?
325i_Dan 08-20-2006, 11:59 PM Are you sure you're not drunk all the time? I barely make out some of your sentences. Good races I suppose.
carrrnuttt 08-21-2006, 02:36 AM Is this Maxima a 6-speed?
OP said:

Quite true. Stock for stock, auto vs 6 speed, the auto usually gets left by about 3-4 cars.
wow dude, i had no idea about maximas... maxima FTW!
i'm seriously really taken back... i had no clue
And that is why they are "sleepers"! Clueless ricers and rustangs would race him and be suprised.
My bro's max used to be a sleeper until he added all the mods :embarrasm
ohnoes 08-21-2006, 04:01 AM It's still hard to say whether I'd take a FWD 3.5 Maxima over an E36 328is. The latter is fun to drive, whereas the former is probably just a quick, albeit boring stock, car. Sure, with more than a grand invested in coilovers, the thing might handle alright, but it's still FWD and will have lots of torque steer.

the max is actually really fun to drive..
abradic 08-21-2006, 10:46 AM I see, it was an auto. Yeah, big difference. The auto Max seems to get off fine, but it loses steam, especially once it gets into 3rd gear...that thing really needed a 5-speed auto. Also, the gas mileage of the auto was completely horrible compared to the 6-speed.
As for fun to drive, they really are a blast! The thing I liked most was that you could hammer on that car and it keeps running, they are very, very reliable and extremely smooth. I am hoping to find a 95-97 5-speed for my daily driver in October. I used to drive my 99 like I stole it all the time, and still got over 21 mpg city and over 30 mpg hwy. The only thing that sucks is the FWD, and believe me, there is too much tq steer/wheel hop trying to launch it. That's a tough call between a 328 or 02-03 Maxima...the M3 was a no brainer for me though.

It was a joke moron......calm down. When I'm in AZ...are you kidding? Delusional about what? LOL. We're not going over experiences of 328's and Maximas again.... Maximas are nice cars. Just not as fast as people make them out to be in stock form. Very respectable though. With the 328 making under 200hp, it is kind of embarrasing to Nissan that a 328 can hold it's own against it.

I showed you the Maxima videos. All of those cars are either almost stock or only have naturally aspirated mods.
Get off your high horse, shut your big, arrogant mouth, and show me the 328 videos where it beats everything.

SmellyGreek 08-21-2006, 02:05 PM I am a big Maxima guy, been a member of Maxima.org for 5 years, and those 5.5 gens (02-03) are really nice cars, but their rear suspension (multilink beam aka minivan) leaves something to be desired and the torque steer is kind of nasty. I did seriously consider one before I decided to go for the M. Great car if you need something roomy with 4 doors but still enough power to make driving an enjoyable experience. My old 1992 Maxima was an awesome car, 190HP (at the time was pretty awesome), VLSD stock, tons of features, handled great. I still miss that trunk and rear seat.
carrrnuttt 08-21-2006, 02:34 PM Yeah that was already debunked in another thread you nuttttttt!!!!!:lol

you're a riot....that was a 328i auto...huge difference
sjpgoalie 08-21-2006, 04:11 PM HUGE HUGE difference between an auto 328 and a 328is.
2000m 08-21-2006, 04:29 PM HUGE HUGE difference between an auto 328 and a 328is.
whats the difference
M3AVUS 08-21-2006, 04:36 PM Why, it beat you?...Plain and simple, your car is slow player and the maxima is pretty quick. My friend has one exactly the one you're talking about. It is not a slow car.
M3AVUS 08-21-2006, 04:40 PM ....also, i like how people ask why their 328's shouldn't be pulling on other cars. Like it's suppose to be fast.
jrhaile 08-21-2006, 06:09 PM I'll race a Maxima any time of the day :devillook
brownsound 08-21-2006, 06:14 PM With my intake/exhaust, an 02+ maxima creeps away from me VERY slowly once third gear hits. Definitely a tad bit faster up top than a 328, but nothing super fast.
My old 1992 Maxima was an awesome car, 190HP (at the time was pretty awesome), VLSD stock, tons of features, handled great. I still miss that trunk and rear seat.
Maximas are no slouch. Even the older ones... I have one :boink: - variable volume intake runners, VLSD, 190 hp, 190ft-lbs, IRS, VTCs (comparbale to VANOS)... 220k miles and running strong.
btw, manuals are a lot quicker than the autos.

3rdone 08-22-2006, 10:39 AM race this Maxima already...please
and why is it "the Maxima" is there more to this car than you're letting on to??????
valkut 08-22-2006, 11:19 AM its not that big of a deal. ok maximas are fast, 328is are slow, whatever. i just posted this thread as a kill story not a ground for battle on how good or bad maximas are. i have not had the 328is for long and i just found out that it has shorter gears than the other ones do. maybe it has a different rear end or something. plus this bimmer guy drove it today and said that it was slow as crap. he said that his 528 will walk all over it.
but thats not the point. i have another race story. This time it involved a 240sx with sr20det. he killed me like i was nothing. on speed and of start. the only way i took him was when we were both fith gear at 70mph. the funny thig about this guy is that his wastegate is no hooked up. so he is pushing all the juice out of that car.
328isguy81 08-22-2006, 06:04 PM Oh noes... go get em' Cohn :buttrock
haha, haven't got to race a single person here yet. Maybe because all there is here for cars are lambo's, ferrari's, aston martin's, bentley's, etc.:(

Umm you should be able to beat a 528:rolleyes Its the same motor as yours but in a much heavier car. I used to pull on my buddys 528 pretty easy. Your car must not be running right.
valkut 08-24-2006, 09:22 PM my car is running alright its just that it has over a billion miles on it. thats why. other than that it will run alright for another 10 years.
