My friend & I were cruising back home from our buddy's house tonight.
He drives a really clean E36 325i 4-door (it's an automatic but has an intake & exhaust). I'm only pushing 8psi & need a better ignition tune. We raced when I had my original motor several months ago (94rwhp), and I could keep up until 50mph...then he would just pull away.

So tonight, I'm behind him as we both turn for a freeway on-ramp. He guns it through the turn. I hesitated and then went for it...but waited too long because I didn't catch him until the on-ramp merged to the freeway. He must've been doing around 80mph by then (i think he let off a little bit), I just kept it planted and flew by doing 100-110 (wrapped it out to about 6k rpms in 4th).

I let off and slow down to the speed limit & wait for him to catch up. When we get even @ 65mph, I drop it to 4th gear @ 3,600rpms (about where the turbo begins to hit full boost). I start to pull a little bit (ignition tune sucks right now), and then start to pull like a freight train by 4,500rpms. Briefly shift to 5th & take it up to about 125, and I'm easily 2 bus lengths in front.

We go for another run, this time I keep it in 5th. He starts to pull slowly (dam, turbo isn't spooled up), drop it into 4th...reel & pass :redspot

As soon as I get a better ignition tune & up the boost (to around 16psi), it'll be time to go E46 M3 hunting :evil2

That is awesome!!

Really cool seeing a 320I with that much power!! You must surprise very many people with that car!

Isnt it extremely satisfying beating newer more expensive cars??!!
That is a boosted M10 right? What do you think its putting out?
Nice sig!

Nice. I love the way your car looks with the old school superlites.

Thanks!
yeah, it's a M10 (2.0 liter, 8.5:1 compression, high-lift cam,...). I'm guessing it's doing around 180-200hp right now on 8psi. It actually has torque now! It's pretty awesome coming from 94rwhp to this :help

haha, it would be a total sleeper if it weren't for the loud exhaust (3" side-exit :D ), and the turbo spools as loud as the exhaust. But at least deaf drivers will never know what hit 'em :stickoutt

Why the side exhaust?

mainly because a 3" exhaust won't fit where the stock exhaust plumbing was routed (over the rear subframe & under the driver-side half-shaft), and couldn't route it under the subframe because it would have about an inch of ground clearance. It also gives better performance (quicker spool up), and it was easy to build (three 45* mandrel bends).

Why the side exhaust?

Good question.

Ever consider just doing an undercar dump?, Hell, an electric cutout will enhance that sleeper image 100X.

Just wondering though, what turbo are you running on that beast?

Colton, yeah, it was Matt's E36. Sure, I'm down for a little race...I'm pretty sure you'd beat me right now since you have at least 50 more hp & not much more weight. But yeah, it'd be cool to get a before & after comparison.

Ryan666, it's a t3/t04e (.63 A/R stage 3 wheel, 50-trim compressor, & ball-bearing cartridge upgrade)...so yeah, it's huge for a little 2.0l 4cyl. But the power-band is around 3,500rpms to redline...so it should be very fun @ the track.

yeah, i was contemplating doing an open-dump cutout switch but just decided to 'screw it' & go big & loud full-time. :eyecrazy

Please get rid of that side exhaust. That car would be a total sleeper.

Go into sleeper mode, as it is that car hauls more ass than it should, NICE ride.

Finally boosting. Awesome. Going to wait 6 months to tune and crank the boost? ;)
