s2000 specs:
mid pipe, intake, custom 2.5+" catback, no cat... some suspension mods.
m3 specs:
catback, intake, shark, cdv removed... 18s...etc some suspension mods.
I've ran the guy before, he's a friend. At stock form of both cars, it's dead even or very close runs on the top end. On the bottom end, 10-20mph roll runs, I walk away, no prob there. Then after my shark inj. and intake versus him and his intake, I'll pull away on 4th gear (few months ago). Earlier I've just replaced my valve cover gasket (had oil on plugs) and new sparkplugs to ngk v-power plugs. I asked for iridiums but for some reason the guy gave me v powers. I didn't check it til i got home and was thaught, "I'll just try these out since I already baught them." Also removed the clutch delay valve. Anyway, so we race today. I wanted to see the difference with my new stuff. I just installed the new catback and and new plugs. From a 60-65pmh drop, I hang with him for say 5 secs then he pulls effortlessly away. In 4th gear he's ~1.5-2 cls ahead. At fifth he's ~2-3 cls ahead, We shut off. We have a few runs, all with similar results. I've noticed within "one" gear, 3rd or 4th, the rpm moves from 7 back to ~6.5 then back up to 7. This is strange to me. What's the deal? On the 10-20mph roll runs, we're pretty close and then he budges away slowly. Our runs used to be soo close. Is it his mid pipe/no cat mods that is giving him the top end advantage? Or is my car just getting old and weak? Any thaughts on this?
there's a stock '06 s2000 in this today as well, but he hangs on pretty good then falls back.

Maybe your plugs aren't gapped close enough?Exhaust doesn't do too much for s2000s...like 3-4 whp. His intake is worth like 5-7 peak i believe. His car would really move ,though, with some gears. He shouldn't really run away from you at all unless he has a freak or is an awesome driver

I didn't mess with the gaps(read alot that plugs these days are pre-gapped). Maybe I should change the sparkplug gap, read here on the forums that they're supposed to be .040-.045 for my car? ... no big peak hp gains on his car for the exhaust setup but perhaps a better powerband... yes?

Just because they are pre-gapped doesnt mean they will always be right. I always check mine just to be sure. The cats probably help since they are so restrictive, but i wouldnt think that much.

He might lose some torque down low with the exhaust and will make a few peak and maybe 3 or 4 in the midrange. But since his car is raced in vtec the whole time besides first, he will realize a few ponies throughout the race

he may have learned to drive better over time

He might just know how to actually drive his car. I have a 97 ///M and ran my friends 03 S2K with basically the same mods and I literally walked on him....now if he changed the gears then it would be a complete story. Another friend of mine put 4.77's in his S2K and barks 4th NA!!!

u should of been able to pull away. i thought that vpower ngk were cold plugs, for turbo/sc/nitrous applications that's why they are alot cheaper, cause u use them and throw them away.
anyways the iridiums would of been better even the bosch plat4.
arent s2k six speed (shorter gear ratio)
He probably had hondata installed on the DL.:D

The thing is that the previous owner of that car had a comptech sc on it and other mods done to it but had the sc took out before he let the s2k go. comparing his s2k vs another friend's stock 06 s2k and we noticed that the fuel rail is ~2x bigger then the 06 s2k. so there can be other mods done to his car that we have no idea of... anyway, i'm not worrying about this anymore.. lol.. I admit defeat. .. I just thaught it was kinda wierd.
btw I went ahead and gapped the plugs to ~.043. Not going to race him just to see if this would help b/c I doubt gapping the plugs would do much help. Just thaught I'd fix the gap b/c I'm supposed to............

yeah bigger fuel rail usually = bigger fuel injectors and a tuned ecu to run the fuel. Anyways it probably had more than bolt ons to beat you.

Definitely something odd...I've raced a friend's e36M3 when my S2k was stock and it has always been dead even. The mods your friend claims do not buy that much power to walk an e36M3 that well. Without the SC the larger fuel rail and injectors are not going to do much good...the S2k runs very rich from the factory (that's why an air - fuel controller is a good mod for the car).
You sure he didn't slip 4.57 gears in without telling you? That number of car lengths sounds about right for that mod.
Otherwise...do a compression test...your car is getting up there in years...might have a cracked ring. My e36M3 had about 75k hard autox track miles when a ring popped.
BTW...Hondata only can flash the '06 S2k's new ecu. Only Hondata product for other years is the insulating manifold gasket and that doesn't add hp but reduces heat soak (which is terrible on the S2k).
