I'm jinxed... Two hours before I was scheduled to pick up the new Z4 coupe today, the sales guy called to inform me that some sort of solvent messed up the paint on my front bumper. The car was at a place that does clear bras and they figure they may have spilled something on the bumper.

Needless to say I was pretty ticked. I told the sales guy that I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue with the purchase and I would get back to him.

Just for the heck of it, I snuck down to the dealership to see what the problem was first hand. I asked to see tha car and they told me that they already took it to the body shop. They also said that they needed to remove the entire front bumper to repaint it. That's when I lost it and said they could keep the car and give me a full refund.

This was not a good day... Am I overreacting?

Not at all. Go back tomorrow and tell them you want $1,000 off of previously negotiated price or you walk. :D

I was going to say the same thing - however I don't expect them to bite.

Good news! I actually got to see what happened to the car and it was very minimal. A very small area (less than hlaf the size of a fingernail) on the very back of the lower lip of the front bumper had some paint peel. They figured it may have happened due to some excess alchohol settling in that area overnight (the car was at a place that does clear bras).

Anyway, they had the spot repainted and clear coated. They never removed the bumper. To me (and I am very picky) it looked flawless in all lighting conditions.

In all other respects the car is absolutely flawless. I have never seen a black finish that is so smooth and defect free. I had it under some pretty revealing lighting for several hours and I scanned the wole car - wow!

I took ownership of it yesterday and I am completely blown away by the engineering that went into this vehicle. There is no comparison with my G35 coupe - I don't miss it at all.

Proud to be a new Z owner!
