View Full Version : Dallas plans for 12/8 caravan down to Austin??!??
AaronM3 11-27-2002, 02:28 PM Alright,
I am not going to miss this for anything. Assuming that carlton doesn't screw me over yet again for yet another week.. i will have my car back by then.. and definitely be going down there w/yall. If not.... anyone want a passenger? Anyway, what are the plans for meeting up? What time, where, and we going to eat or just go directly from there down to austin?
-aaron-
PS: if someone can get me an address of where we're going so I can download the directions from mapquest into my PDA
redman325is 11-27-2002, 02:33 PM hey man,
im from austin and I was wondering what kind of bmw scene is down here. Is it big, I have never nitcied anything around here, but I do know some beautiful backroads that everone would love. anyways it would be cool if I too could find out where everyone goes.....talk to yall later...
,sean
snk328is 11-27-2002, 04:19 PM It's going to be a bitch to go down there and come back in the same day, so I'm still 50-50, but hopefully I'll go...
e46driver 11-27-2002, 07:06 PM It will be a long ass drive :) For a centralized meeting place for the caravan down, the regular meeting place at Papps BBQ will do nicely. Since everyone knows where it is and it will be a straight shoot down 35 from there to Austin.
Austin 11-30-2002, 01:58 AM Reason I suggested we dont use Pappas for this its to far out of the way. Ft worth people will have to drive 30mins just to meet us.
I say we meet at Whataburger off 35 just south of I-20. It should be off Pleasent Run exit & 35E. So all the Dallas guys will be heading that way and just pull off 35. The Ft worth guys will have to come across 20 or 30 and go down 35E.
We're suppose to be in Austin at 11:30am at County Line BBQ so we'll have to leave Dallas 8:30-9:00am. This is gonna be a bitch of a trip, so much driving so much gas so lil time.
We will have to meet at 8:00am someplace and eat breakfest and leave at 8:45am. People should also bring those lil radios so we can keep contact while driving.
-----------------------------------------------------------
DALLAS people: Contact Austin (krazyklown_12@hotmail.com) for the Dallas convoy plans.
Contact me with any questions: RoadRat@roadfly.org
Hope to see you all there!!!
The DETAILS:
Meet for Lunch:
County Line BBQ (opens at 11:30AM on Sunday)
6500 Bee Caves Rd (1/2 mile west of Hwy 360 and on the right if your going west on Bee Caves Rd.)
(512) 327-1742
The Drive (approx. 165 miles):
Turn right out of the County Line BBQ parking lot. Take Bee Cave Rd. going west for about 8 miles to Hwy 71 and go west (right) on Hwy 71.
Stay on Hwy 71W for 59 miles, which will take you into Llano. At the end of Hwy 71, you'll come to a stop sign, which is Hwy 16 in Llano.
Photo Shoot on Llano River and Rest Area Break:
Take a right on Hwy 16 for 1.2 miles into Llano and cross the Llano River Bridge. Immediately after crossing the Llano River Bridge, take a left on Legion Drive (across the street from the Llano Historical Museum). Go about 100 yards on Legion Dr. and turn left into the American Legion Parking lot and park there. There is a restaurant next door called the Llaneaux Seafood House that has public restrooms.
When leaving the American Legion parking lot, turn right on Hwy 16 and go for 20 miles. Keep a sharp eye out for a little road to the left called "Willow City Loop" (this 13 mile road has tons of photo opportunities). Turn left onto the Willow City Loop and go exactly 2 miles and pull over to the side of the road at the “Buice Rd”. street sign for our second photo shoot of the day (nice view).
After the photo shoot, continue on the Willow City Loop for 11 miles until you get into the tiny town of Willow City (at the stop sign), just continue going straight after going thru the stop sign and this road will become Hwy 1323. Take Hwy 1323 for about 22 miles to Hwy 281.
Take a left (north) onto Hwy 281 and go about 9 miles. Turn right onto 962 for go for about 7 miles. Turn left on 962 at Cypress Mill for 9 miles and you will cross the Pedernales River. After you cross the Pedernales River, the road becomes 3238 (AKA Hamilton Pool Rd.) Follow 3238 for 15 miles to Hwy 71.
Final destination for dinner not yet finalized.

SDbboy 11-30-2002, 02:10 AM I'll be there but I ain't driving back to Dallas that same day, I'll be staying some friends and driving back Monday.

AaronM3 11-30-2002, 02:34 PM Well , DF/W is soo friggin big that either way, either the Ft. Worth ppl or the Dallas ppl will have to drive the distance of 20/30 to get to where we're meeting at. I like the whataburger idea, although with soo many whataburgers in the area... i am concerned ppl might get lost. Being that early in the morning, and being a lot of us stay out till the weeeee hours of morning on our late sat night binges.... I think that maybe meeting up at a much bigger location, or one that we all know how to get to would work out better. Here is what I propose....
We meet in the parking lot of the American Airlines Arena. You can't get lost... its quite accessable from I-20 and to I-35. What do you guys think? We need to have a gameplan in stone by wednesday latest so ppl can make arrangements.

QuestMCoupe 11-30-2002, 11:48 PM I'm trying to get someone to work for me on Sunday night so I'll let you guys no for sure this week before Wed.
snk328is 12-01-2002, 12:47 AM So are many of you gonna drive down and return the same day? Just curious, as this is what I'd be doing if I went.
Austin 12-01-2002, 01:40 AM I'll be waking up at 6:30am leaving around 7:15am meeting around 8:00am leaving after eating breakfast at whataburger by 8:30-45am getting to Austin no later than 11:00am..eating lunch at 11:30am then driving the distance. Not eating dinner coming straight back to Dallas after a brieft stop to walk around a bit. Returning home the same day and having finals the next moring followed by going to work.
I'm not bringing a camera. Someone should film this.
:drink1: :menani:
QuestMCoupe 12-01-2002, 01:45 AM I'm coming back the same day or night. I wont have to work until Monday night so I wont be in a hurry to come back home but I wont be staying overnight in Austin.
AaronM3 12-01-2002, 03:39 AM cool.. yeah assuming carlton and his stupid ass gets me back my car... i will be just going for hte day. Leave early..... play with BMW's ... come back evening and crash b/c of school next morning. Hell i am taking time off of studying for finals to go down to Austin so mother nature better cooperate and give us good weather. :D
QuestMCoupe 12-01-2002, 03:48 AM Just curious but whats the problem with Carltons? Did they screw something up or something?
Austin 12-01-2002, 05:59 PM I have guys sending me emails asking for the details, I need to know where we are meeting that moring.
I'll have my GF with me for the ride.
QuestMCoupe 12-01-2002, 09:44 PM I say the Whataburger you mentioned. Thats the best spot in the middle of everything.
Austin 12-01-2002, 11:08 PM Whataburger will allow us a place to meet as well as eat and its on the highway we need.
Joe: Since your in the area is there anyway you can drive over there and see what exit its located at ?? I'm talking about the one infront of Wal-Mart. Should be Plesant Run exit.
snk328is 12-01-2002, 11:10 PM I'm still 50-50. It will probably be a spur-of-the-moment decision for me. I'd sure like to cruise with you guys though... If I do go, I'll bring my digi-cam. Maybe I'll also try to ghetto-rig my Hi-8...
QuestMCoupe 12-02-2002, 01:13 AM Austin I'll go by there Wednesday since thats my next day off and see which exit it is.
snk, hope you make it out there.
AaronM3 12-02-2002, 03:10 AM come on snk.. you know you want to go. Give in to that little voice saying " come on.... do it.... do it...." :D
snk328is 12-02-2002, 11:24 AM Yeah I know I know.. I really want to check out your cars too. I might just bite the bullet and buy the speed mount so I can take in-car footage! :D If I buy that stuff I"ll definitely go so I can take footage!
AaronM3 12-02-2002, 06:55 PM well.... looks like i might not have my car back by this weekend :( Carlton is unsure of the wiring setup for OBD1 on a S52.. so he is doing some research on it. can anyone please help??! I just need to know the wiring set up for it... please... anyone??! :(

Call up http://www.bimmerworld.com/
They sell OBD1 conversion kits and probably have some sort of instruction for the wiring
Good luck my friend :)
AaronM3 12-02-2002, 11:15 PM thanks for the link borf. I just can't justify spending more money.. on something my mechanic promised up and down from the beginning he could make work. *sigh* :(
QuestMCoupe 12-02-2002, 11:24 PM That sucks man. I dont see why he cant do it if he works on bimmers. I hope it all goes well.

I wasn't exactly suggesting you buy a kit from them, but rather to call them up and get your mechanic to ask whatever problems he has...do you have the sufficient wiring, etc?
QuestMCoupe 12-02-2002, 11:35 PM Thats a good idea, they should be able to answer any questions he may have or they can even call AA...obviously they've done plenty of these wirings.
AaronM3 12-02-2002, 11:39 PM Great Idea borf! I am trying to find a way over there tommorow to deal with this cat.... so I will definitely tell him to call them right there on the spot.
thanks joe, I might have to call a favor on you and ask for your help in getting over there sometime to deal with this yahoo. Take care man and have you found a place to get the tint done at? Any prices? I am thinking around 200 bucks, is that right?

tdrag97 12-03-2002, 05:29 PM kooll you guys already have something here... here is something for the Houston guys.... http://forum.e46fanatics.com//showthread.php?s=&postid=378412#post378412
AaronM3 12-04-2002, 02:03 PM hmmm... interesting news. I went over to carlton's yesterday... my engine and everything is ready to go... its just that he does not know where to plug a simple 4 various wires ( sensor wires) into the engine. So because of that my car is STILL NOT READY. But that's okay.. b/c carlton knew that this is taking forever.. so he lent me a car. I am now the pimpin shorterm driver of a 86 caddy deville. Peeling blue paint, one tire is missing the hubcap.... and a gas guzzler from hell. But hey, at least it runs, right? Anyway... hopefully b/c i have one of his cars , he will hurry up and finish out my car... so I can ride with you guys down this sunday. but i am not 100% certain of the story yet.. i will keep you all informed.

Austin 12-05-2002, 02:28 PM There is a Whataburger at Plesant Run and 35. We should be there at 8:00am eat and leave around 8:30-45am. Get into Austin around 11:00am eat lunch at 11:30am.
There is'nt much to chose from in the south Dallas area as far as meeting place's that early go.
AaronM3 12-05-2002, 05:19 PM get a physical address for the whataburger. That way we can get on mapquest and there is NO room for error in finding it.
snk328is 12-06-2002, 12:40 PM So are you guys ready or what? What's the final decision/address on the meeting place?
Aaron, did you get your car back yet?!?!
AaronM3 12-06-2002, 05:31 PM final meeting place is whataburger.... and as for my car, carlton said tonight or tommorow latest.. so looks like I will be there on sunday! :) I just need to do some last minute work on my car (installing TME, SSK, Ellipsoids, HID's, Clutch Stop), which will probably happen sometime saturday ( hopefully).
snk328is 12-06-2002, 06:59 PM Hey cool, Aaron. Bad news, they say rain on Sunday night...

blackm3 12-06-2002, 09:06 PM So are you guys coming for on Sun? Email us at the yahoo group email.
AaronM3 12-06-2002, 09:44 PM well if its on yeah... depending on how mother nature feels i suppose
Austin 12-07-2002, 12:39 AM I wont be going. I have car issue's to work out first. My rear toe is out so bad its causing my backend to bind when i back up and turn. Gotta replace some susp parts first before I go out. It only became noticable in the past two days so it was fairly quick in breaking. My tires are bald so if it did rain I'd be messing with to many factors that could screw the pooch.
My father wont be attending, he has to detail his car for a show on Monday. Dunno what show.
The more you mod your car the more you fix your car.
RoadRat 12-07-2002, 03:22 PM The meet IS ON!!! We are not gonna let a little "possiblity" of rain stop us. If it does rain, it will be at the end of the drive, so it should not affect us. Again, it is only light rain and only a possiblity of rain.
So, all of you that were planning on coming, please do so. It will be more fun if we have more people.
Here are the details:

Thanks. Email me with any questions or concerns.
See ya'll in the morning!!

QuestMCoupe 12-08-2002, 11:05 PM Anybody from Dallas make the meet? I couldnt go because my sorry ass superviser didnt let me have the day off.
snk328is 12-08-2002, 11:53 PM I don't think people would be back yet if they went. I didn't go because the weather looked shitty...
QuestMCoupe 12-08-2002, 11:57 PM Yeah, thats true. I guess we'll see tomorrow.
RoadRat 12-09-2002, 12:40 AM 5 Dallas guys braved the weather....Lincoln, DallasBimmerBoy, ChunkyD and a couple of others. Sorry if I screwed up their nicknames, I know them by real names now.
Here are a couple of pics. It was a blast, despite the weather. Hopefully, next time it won't rain!

QuestMCoupe 12-09-2002, 12:51 AM Looks like it was fun. Hopefully the weather will be better next time and my boss wont be an ass.
Hey guys, I completely forgot about the party, but I had a lot of things going on, so sorry I couldn't make it.
I bet I probably drove right past the parade on my way to a meeting. I was on 71 going East from the Pedernalas river right at 1:40.
I drive past this spot in the picture everyday, it's nice to see a bunch of bmws!

Austin 12-09-2002, 04:17 AM Yah it was raining all day here south of Dallas. The weather and car trouble kept me home. I"ll wait for a spring drive :D I think some of the Dallas guys were staying to party some.
QuestMCoupe 12-09-2002, 04:19 AM Austin, why is your car messed up? Suspension too stiff?

Roads to shitty........some parts have 187k miles on them and others are brand new they dont mix well. I've been living in Denton for awhile and its beating my car up. I'll have my car ready for next season.
QuestMCoupe 12-09-2002, 04:31 AM Cool. You think it might also be because you have your Konis set on full stiff? Or did you soften it up a little?
Austin 12-09-2002, 04:46 AM Nah their still stiff........I might loosen the back up a bit to help with understeer. Once I mess with it over winter it'll be handling even better.
QuestMCoupe 12-09-2002, 05:07 AM Cool, good luck man. Hope you get it fixed soon.
SDbboy 12-09-2002, 05:22 AM This drive through the gorgeous back hill country of Austin Texas embodied everything an organized BMW club event should be. Much fun was had by all, nothing quite like doing 140 MPH in the rain then minutes later watching a family of deer in the wild and chillin with some extremely cool and personable people.
Maximum respect to Karim for putting forth the effort and following through with a great idea. :)
I'll give you an SMG II demo next time we meet up.
Brian
SDbboy 12-09-2002, 05:25 AM Almost forgot:
Chris (ChunkyD) and myself will be editing the video footage we took of the drive and hosting it on a ultra fast ftp for everyone to download and view as soon as possible.
Brian
QuestMCoupe 12-09-2002, 06:38 AM Glad you guys had fun Brian. I can't wait to see the video.

chunkyd, gimme back my camera sucka!
Badass pics!
Too bad the weather sucked, i'll attend one if we do it in the spring!
