I see that this site is great for helping people in my situation so I figure i will give it a shot. I have a 1992 325is. I have just done a whole bunch of front end work so I am confused as to what is causing the 'clunking' noise i get when i come to a full stop. It even happens now when i accelerate and shift gears. It is coming from the middle of the front end. I just did the Lower ball joints, Tie rods, Control arm bushings, sway bar links, and put new struts in. any ideas out there?
thanks
Geoff

Check all your ball joints. I had the same problem with my car and the ball joint the right side lower control arm was shot.

check all suspension nuts again - torque to proper spec.

well the good news is it is fixed! the bad news is my 'old' mechanic is going to hell! basically, the transmission was about two bolts away from falling out! out of the bolts holding the tranny to the bell housing, two were missing, and two were GONE!
so i had my 'new' mechanic tighten them all up and it sounds like $1,000,000!
Loose tranny bolts=clunky sound when braking
thanks for the replys
