I just got back from the $tealer here in Camarillo (Steve Thomas) and had a good look and sit in a Z4M roadster (no coupes there). It left me with 2 distinct impressions

Firstly: the seats are by far the best seats of any bmw I've ever been in. truly snug and firm.

Secondly: I don't like the dash but the rest of the car looks great - especially the feel and size of the steering wheel.

I really want to FI my M3 but will have to seriously consider the Z4M and sell my wife on the idea ;)

He's only had one coupe allocation so far and it was a customer order. I think he has two coupes coming in the near future, one of which is mine :D (the allocation was traded from BMW of Bakersfield). I'm fairly sure the other is also a customer order.

I 'test fit' a roadster with the top up earlier this year and found it to be comfortable. I had an opportunity to drive a coupe from one of the local dealers and the cockpit is a very pleasant place to be with the controls all falling readily to hand.

It was mentioned that they're getting two 335's in either later this week or early next week - I'll be stopping by to check those out too. He (Ken) did mention that they were to be reserved for customer tests and not to be sold... which could be doubtful but here's hoping.

the z4 dash is extremely plain....the only thing that helps is the Navi, it fits in perfect and fills in the dash nice

The greatest thing about the seats is that here in Oz the full electric are standard on the Z4 ///M and as both my wife and I drive the car having the seat positions coded into the key memory is great. Simply press the 'Open' button as you approach the car and by the time you get in the seat is at your settings. They certainly are snug and compared to my S2000 seats are a narrower fit.

I like the dash design - all clean geometric surfaces, it looks minimalist and hi tech without being "busy." The old "airplane cockpit" wouldn't suit it as well. My girlfriend says it's the car equivalent of those houses in "Architectural Digest" where they're beautiful, but you're left wondering where the heck the owners put the clutter of daily life.

With reference to the Nav I personally think the BM Nav is woeful and the equivelent of the portable ones of 5 years ago. I can only comment on the version in the Oz version of the Z4 ///M but the display is pathetic with a white "route" that dissapears at times on refresh. There is no POI warning that can be easily added or even personal POIs that can be added without a lot of work and tossing away warranty. You cannot set multiple way points in trips. I could go on but it does have the major advantage of always being there and having the inertia and speedo input when sats are not visible.

I have a 2004 Navman PIN and it is streets ahead on features.

But the display in the BM is terrific and visible under all light even bright direct sun.

Dash design is very good, and entire interior pretty much borrowed from 7.

What is it you guys like about these seats so much. I am thinking about sourcing a set for my Z3. Anyone have them that is about 6.1 240 36/38 waist? Are the comfortable?

I'm going to need more time in them to determine that they're actually comfortable for the long haul. I can say that they are far more comfortable for me than the seats found in a friend's 99 E36 M3. If they're as good as my E46 sport package seats (with non-adjustable lumbar) then I'll be happy as a clam.

they are the 2nd most comfortable seats I have been in recently...the first being the sport seats in the M3 WITH lumbar and adj width...

I can't say that I notice my dash much while driving. I actually had to go and look at it. Yes, it is a little bland, but seems to fit with the car when taken as a whole.
