Hey there, this happened to me earlier today, anyone know what happened?

Was driving down the road, started hearing a very quiet whine, then a gurgleing noise, turned off the A/C to finish my drive back to work, turned it back on to see what happens, gurgleing got worse, then a large amount of smoke started coming from under hood, looked like on the passenger side of vehicle, near the belt assembly (i just got a new belt about 4 months ago),

I am thinking the compressor froze up? or perhaps blew, and the smoke was the oil burning?

If the smoke had a burning rubber smell this could be a seized idler pulley, compressor, etc. Best to have it checked out immediately.

After further inspection, found out i couldn't start the engine anymore, figured the compressor was locked up, and the belt couldn't turn, cut the belt for the compressor (compressor is on a seperate belt), started up, drove it to the shop, and now am awaiting my estimate.
This one is gunna hurt :'(
