I am looking into buying a '06 Z4 Roadster. Love the car and all, but it would be the DD. I am in Kansas City, where winters are pretty cold, and it does snow a little bit. If I bought the car, how cold would it be with the cloth top, the car would ALWAYS be in the garage, but still. The only time the car wouldn't be out is when there is actually snow on the ground. But even with heated seats, and the heater on, would I be miserable at all? I have never owned a convertable, so that's why I ask. I don't want the coupe, or the hard top. I don't really like the looks of either. Summers here are HOT, so it'd be fine, but I just want to know how bad winter would be?

Thanks.

As convertibles go, the Z4 has one of the best insulated tops around. I've lived in cold climates before, i.e., Chicago, Detroit, Philly, etc., andI don'think you'll have a problemas long as you get the heated seats, which BTW work really well unlike some found on Japanese cars. My RX-8 seats wouldn't thaw a phart!

not so bad ive hard various z4's and live just outside of philly...as long as you have seat warmers and a good jacket for the first 5 minutes its not so bad but i will admit that it does loose hat very fast. I drive the car year round.

I drove my Z4 ('05 3.0 with sport pkg.) all last winter in NJ except when there was snow on the roads. I bought a set of all season tires and did fine. Heat was not a problem.

Ditto - I'm in Chicago and drove my Z4 on cold days when the roads weren't a mess. Actually pretty comfortable, especially when you consider I don't drive with a coat on. It heats up quickly since the interior is smaller than my 325; heated seats would be icing on the cake. Note that I've got the power top, which has the insulated lining - manual tops don't.

I think people make a valid point... The cockpit is small so the car heats up pretty quick. All cars get cold inside when parked in the winter. However, there is a marked difference between a soft top and a hard top once you get going... You'll probably find yourself playing with the heat a lot during cold days in a "too hot, too cold... too hot, too cold..." type of sequence.

Well thanks for all the info, it helps with the decision. The car would be driven every day except when snow is on the ground, so this is all good news. I didn't know that a manual top was an option, but thanks for the info! Going to go test drive one and see how it is.
