Getting onto a 4 lane rd with a divider in middle. Two lanes going each way. got it? Speed limit is 55mph. Stop sign at onramp.

Im leaving work and about to get onto this road when I notice a Black Chrysler Crossfire behind me.

I dont think anything of it, take my time nice and easy. Take off easy in first. shift to second.

Im at the bottom of second and hear the A--fire squeal its tires and pull up next to me.
I lay the pedal down to the floor in second gear and stay on it.
The Crossfire does not pull on me. (I thought it was)

Shift to third, still side by side and approaching 75mph. At this point the crossfire starts to pull slightly.
I have to tap the brakes and switch lanes. Back on the gas and back with the crossfire till 90mph. Shut it down at that point since the crossfire decided to switch lanes and cut people off.

I didnt think my car could hang with one of these. Must of surprised him when a lil ol 91' 318IS hung with him.

So you've got the motor from the E36 325i? That's awesome, you must be about as fast as an E30 M3. Good race.

Not too surprising you kept up, if he was actually racing.

Base model X-fire is only something like 215-220 hp and isn't all that light. If it was the blown version, with the SRT-6 badge, you'd see funky art-deco tailights growing steadily smaller....

What do the SRT-6 have for specs?

330hp and similar torque. I have seen a bone stock 1 wheel burner rip a 13.28. I have heard running them on a cold night an 17 rims on drag radial they can break into the high 12's.

When you go to moding them you see bigger gains. With a ecu upgrade and crank pulley you gain the back 20hp less then you see in the slk32 amg plus addition 45hp. Bringing the hp and torque just shy of 400. Put in a LSD and 17inch rims possible 16inch rims with drag radial's. Seeing mid to low 12's would not be to far fetched I dont think.

You can always get a evosport evo 2 package and get there new dampened crank pulley. That includes slk55 intake splitter and hoses that flow more. That setup is good for around 430hp.

There are also some startech crossfire running around in the US. Which has the 6.1l hemi v8 out of srt8 lx based cars (magnum,300c, charger). Startech is a offshoot of Brabus.

What part of NH do you live in? My friend lives in dairy.

Does your hood now open evenly?

You could always put m3 cams in your motor and header and custom tuning. It will give you the same power s50 but less torque.

How do you figure? Unless he's got other mods, an E30 M3's got a few horses on him and probably shorter gearing.

Nice kill. Would have been sick if you swapped the s52 into your car it would have been a beast. Sick Sig too.

Technically your car is no longer a 318is...;)

But dollar for dollar, doesn't that win just make you feel SOOOO good?

This car puts a smile on my face everyday. Really makes me smile when it can hang with a newer midlife crisis mobile that cost a fraction to build.
I have turned every wrench on this car myself.

I know its not technically a 318IS anymore but the badge still says so....

I was badgeless for quite a while. Then I put the motor in and my friend and I thought it would be humerous to put one back on. So I did, pulled it off a 318I (e36). Kinda Sleeper

Uh, if he's gone as far as an engine transplant you can rest assure he's done other mods to compliment it!! No one pulls an engine and just bolts up stock peripherals to go with it. :rolleyes

An M50 also has more low end torque so on a highway run that longer gearing will keep his nose ahead of an E30 M3. Then of course he is also lighter...
